I'm off to the Spanish Pyrenees and was wondering if anyone can offer the latest on laws and any links for no-fly maps.  I'm particularly interested in knowing whether non-residents of Spain, who don't have a licence are able to fly and, if so, what they need to do to do so.  I've heard Spain is quite stringent on drone use (this link for example is pretty dire), so any details from locals would be very welcome.

Thanks.  A quick look at the page isn't promising.  Looks like I might have to fly the Pyrenees from across the border, in France.

I flew the Mavic last Christmas in Spain. Flew it at a local park in Alameda de Osuna outside of Madrid and in the mountains about 20km from El Escorial. Actually a priest hiking the old Roman road was really interested in the drone. All in all, no one complained, but I made sure to be mindful of anything that would get me in trouble.

Hopefully I'll visit again before too long and have another shot at flying there.

In Spain the laws are restrictive for professional drones. Drones for personal use are governed by standards applied to model aircraft. You have more information at the following link Drones Baratos Ya!

I found this that basically tells you what u can and cannot do with a dron. It is in Spanish, but it can help you.

I saw a vid on yt where a guy got caught flying in a national park and apparently got hit with a huge fine, he is quite a regular drone pilot on yt will do a quick search ...



Not mainland by the looks but that will not matter I guess.

Just ask at the local cops station, fly safe and fly free.

There's no information what those color codes mean? At least not in english.

Any chance go get help for them? Also - does that mean that where there is no any markings, you can fly your drone without any worries?

Montserrat is a national park. You can't fly there as well as in no other national park in Spain.

They're staying in Ligonde, Spain just outside of Lugo in some gorgeous countryside—well away from urban setting. Thoughts?

Check up to date AIP on AIP Spain to get to know about flight restrictions if any in that area.
Otherwise, no night flights, no flights over urban areas, no higher than 120m and no BVLOS.

Maybe the helicopter flights that can be booked there are the cause drones are not permitted? :-)

BVLOS - beyond visual line of sight.

In fact Spanish (and most EU) rules, on one hand allow to fly not more than 500m (horitzontal distance from pilot or observer) and, on the other hand, oblige the pilot to have the drone always on sight. The  most restrictive prevails.

Actually, they have fined him after all. They have sent him a fine over email on the fact, that he has posted a video proving that he broke the rules.

In addition to National Parks / Parque Nacional Spain also have Natural Parks / Parque Natural. I have tried to find out if the same rules apply here or if its allowed to fly in a Parque Natural but have not found any info. Anybody here knows?

I have the Icarus app and apparently there are not restrictions in all of the national parks unless the app is missing this critical info. Either way, stay out of trouble in these authoritarian countries.

It looks like most of Mallorca is unavailable for drones with a camera :-(

I have heard if you come in as a tourist they confiscate your drone and return it to you when you leave the country.  Is this fact?? Spain is only 1 of few countries I am visiting. I dont like the idea of leaving my drone with them. Spain is a spoiler for my European trip

I have read your comment and have visited the website that you reference.   I'll be hiking in the Catalan region and want to use my small drone under the recreational rules to take some pictures.   I know that Spain's national parks are off limits to drones.   My question is can you fly in the Parc Naturel in that area?  The Airmap app shows no restrictions.   Thanks.
