Has anyone tried to use their Mobile phone as a Hot Spot?

Have a iPad Mini 4 (wifi only) and would like to hear from anyone that has successfully used their Mobile phone to connect.

What has been your experience?

Thanks!

I dont see why it would not work, also you dont have to have connection to wifi to fly your MAvic.

So you can choose whichever method within your phone settings?

Do you have an android or iPhone?

I want to be able to have 'real time' maps handy at all times.

Is that what you mainly use it for?

Mainly, yes; that and firmware updates.

Speed   (and range - if that's an issue)

I often use my cell as a WiFi hot spot for my laptop while traveling. Works great, but I had a cell carrier once that had disabled the function on my phone (an extra fee was required).

I meant WIFI has a faster data transfer rate and range.  However, WIFI can interfere with R/C transmissions.  Your slowdown is more likely due the your phone processing (WIFI demands a higher priority than BT).

I usually recommend that  airplane mode be engaged an BT turned off while flying.  I cache the local google maps in the phone before I fly.
