Boats on the parking lot at the harbour in Edam. This happens every year at the end of the sailing season, so they can do some work for the new season.

Most of the boats are currently on land, on the parking spot that's usually for cars. During the winter they are out of the water so ice (if there is any) won't damage them, and so that the owners can do maintenance work, like repainting the bottom, checking the driveline (like the underwater propellor or whatever it's named in English), rudder, etc. In April the boats will be put back into the water with a large crane. If possible I'm gonna take some photo's that day too. At least from the ground without the Mavic, but if the weather is good, and the people are fine with it maybe also from above.

The boats at the top of the scene (the ones you can only see a part of) are in the water.

I went back today when they were lifting some boats to put them back into the water. The first two images were made with my DSLR. The last two with the Mavic. The wind was more calm now, so I could go a bit higher, and also redid the first photo from a higher point.

I don't think they're gonna get a big crane and lift the cars out of traffic jams on the A4. Unless there's been an accident!

Very true. Tight because of the amount of space on the parking lot, but when seen from the ground there's enough space to walk between them and do the needed maintenance work like repainting the bottom. Still I do wonder how my dad in law managed to get the entire engine out of his boat, and off that lot  between all those boats (it was taken out to a repair shop to get fixed for a trip across the ocean later this year). Then again, I don't know how big that engine is. It's a sailboat, so the engine won't be used too much, only in harbours, and when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction.

I'm looking forward to returning to The Netherlands, this time bringing my Mavic with me.  I visit frequently, but usually only for a few days at a time, and usually only as a pedestrian with short visit via train to various villages.  I might stay a little longer on my next trip and get out to visit more of the countryside.  I just think a Mavic is perfect for a number of good photo/video opportunities in Holland.......

Depending on where you'll stay, you can also reach nice places by bus. From Amsterdam you can easily visit Edam (from the cheese) and Volendam by bus. But also places with a lot of windmills, are nearby and easy to reach by train or bus.
