Is there anyone out there that have tried the mavic controler with the new galaxy S8? or S8+

Haha, it's not even out yet. It's still a month till its released properly. Given that the S7 isnt a supported model still (although works fine) i wouldnt get your hopes up too much ... i've attached the specs, you should be able to compare them with the controler size specs to see if it'll fit

I have been flying my Mavic with the S8 for a few weeks now. It works just fine. The app has force closed a couple of times but it works.

Yeah it looks like it should just about fit. I am worried that, with how not much bezel is left on the phone, the mavic controller grips might cover the screen.

It does cover the screen but just a tiny bit, not enough to really matter. What it does cover is the light sensor so you will need to turn off the auto dim, if not, the screen will go dark and if you're flying during the day it will be hard to see it.

Pics will not be possible at this time since the device is still under NDA. No, I do not work directly for Samsung. I do work for a mobile development company where we receive new devices before being released for testing purposes. The S8 will be an amazing device!

Since the device is being announced all over the place today you can lookup pics of it. Casey Neistat even did a review video on it today.

It must frustrait you when DJI dont develop the Go app or Groundstation in line with their IOS variants then!

Perhaps you could offer them some help with this
I've watched caseys vid, looks pretty interesting, just though it would be good to see how well it fits in the controller. looking forward to a sneak preview when you finally get the nod

You have no idea how frustrating it is not to be able to share pics or any info about the device (and Im only talking about it now because it has been somewhat released today). I am also looking forward to getting that NDA over with so I can post pics of how the phone fits into the remote.

Definitely interested in the S8+, haven't bothered with Samsung since the S2 but that S8+ looks a great option with the Mavic.  Shame I'm not able to upgrade until Dec 17...

I saw that the Samsung 8 will not have USB-OTG support but the S8+ will.  Will that make any difference in the operation of the remote or recording flights to the phone's SD card?

I have mine preordered and I am hoping it will work well with the Mavic.

Thats interesting, I didn't know this. I will try the USB-OTG port on the s8 and will get back to you on that lol

Sorry I forgot to mention that the one I've been using is the s8+ and not the s8. We have both in the office, I will give the regular s8 a try and get back to you guys. I dont see why the s8 wouldn't work fine as well, but we'll see.

Hmmm. I can't get my RC to connect to the phone. I tried last night and nothing... Did you do anything special? Which firmware are you on? I'm on the latest firmware. Thanks in advanced! My S7 edge worked fine and yes I'm using the other cable to plug my S8+ into the controller.

Make sure you push the cable all the way in, sometimes it looks like it's connected but it actually isn't. Phone should start "charging" (Not actually charging but the icon will change)

Got my S8+ today.  Plan to test tonight.

It's always user error. At least most of the time. I didn't have a lot of time to look into the issue before I posted. My issue was due to my case blocking the cable just enough to not connect the phone to the controller. I need to modify the case a little to fix this. I had the same case as my S7 Edge. Didn't really think much of it last night. Doh! All is well....

Update: I modified the case by just shaving a little bit of rubber off of the bottom part of the case and it works great now with the case on. You also don't cover up the dimming sensor in the corner of the phone with the case on and in the RC holder.

The case is fine, but you have to modify it just a little to make the cable fit or buy a new cable maybe.

So the s8+ still gets the charging icon, but you claim it doesn't actually charge.  Have you left it on there long enough to see if the battery level does not go up?  I have this issue wit the s7 Edge and the cell phone battery does get charged and the controller dies sooner than it should.  I was really hoping for that not to be an issue with the s8+ but It looks like it is.

I ordered one a few days ago from Samsung website, they told me that if its ordered online they ship with the Exynos Processor.  Which is the one I prefer since the performance is better and the battery life is longer according to other peoples bench test.

We Will see which one I actually end up with.... ( But I recorded the rep when he told me Exynos.... :-) )

The  S8 and  S8+ were released yesterday for those that preordered in the U.K  before the 19th, my S8+ should arrive this morning. But after the issues with Android and Go Pro etc  I will be using a IPad Mini 4 for the Mavic

I tried my new S8+ last night.  Worked like a charm.  It was sunset so I didn't fly a thorough test, but I did go about a half mile away, shot some sunsets and RTH'd.  Decided to land manually due to darkness and nearness of roof.

Only glitch was I didn't have the correct cable to connect to the RC (side connector) and had to use an adapter that came with the S8.

DJI GO for P3 and I1 doesn't work with S8+.

So I have S8 and it doesn't work for me. Absolutely not.  As the phone is connected to remote controler, everything freezes . DJI Go4 sometimes starts, but Mavic is disconnected. Sometimes only RC is connected, but app freeze after trying to go further.  I even realized, that I starter prophelers on Mavic, then everithing freezed and Mavic was not able to turn off. Really great. Absolutely useless for me. S8 is configured normally, nothing special. With another phone Mavic is working normally, even with S7 Edge. Problem has to be with S8.  I don't feel as a beginner, but this really surprised me.

Lost Mavic due to DJI GO 4 app crash on SamSung Galaxy S8.  Auto landed in ocean on reconnect to DJI Go 4 app.  I'd be extremely cautious if flying with a Android device that you experience DJI GO 4 app crashes with.

I was having a lot of problems with the app on my S8 crashing... I had used the USB connection via my S6 to my S8 to copy my info over and it copied all the apps too... I then deleted the app and reinstalled it on the S8 and it works much better now.. Don't know if anyone else with app problems did the same thing I did copying it from another device, but make sure the app is a fresh install not a copy from another device... May not fix every problem but it definitely works better for me now..

My troubles with Mavic are on completely newly installed S8, no transfer from previous phone. But I realized strange thing. When I try to connect inside the house with no GPS signal ... Mavic operate in ATTI mode and this work with S8!!! As I go out of house and Mavic tries to work in GPS mode, everything crashes and I'm not able to take off. Next time I'll try to fly in ATTI mode on purpose and we will see.
