I suspect this is intended and a change to the P4P due to its faster speed in P mode, but I thought I would ask the question anyway and see if anyone else has noticed the same thing between the P4 and the P4P.

From close to the ground and up I find the P4 travels at its full speed in P mode. But the P4P flies slower than the P4 at altitudes under approx. 20 feet where the P4 does not. But once you get above about 20 feet, the P4P travels a full speed.

The instructions for the P4 and P4P both say that both will slow when close the ground but I never noticed this at all on the P4 at all. But when I flew the P4P under 20 ft., it was like being in beginner mode. It was only by chance and experimenting that I discovered that above a certain altitude (20 ft. at least) it suddenly went to top speed.

So there is a huge difference between the two. Anyone else own both or upgraded and noticed the same thing? I suspect it is an intentional change that is not mentioned in the manual. So not everly concerned but just wondered if this was a change DGI have not told us about.

Could you have sensors enabled on the P4P that are not available/enabled on the P4? With certain censors enabled, the quad will limit speed at lower altitudes (near the ground) and near objects that are nearby. I am not sure it does this as high as 20 feet though. Just a theory.

No. Both are the same in P mode apart from rear sensors which are not applicable to forward travel. Thanks for the thought.

All settings are identical. This is not the issue. It is either a fault or a changed feature due to the increased speed of the P4P in P mode.

That is very odd that this happens up at a 20 foot height. I hope someone chimes in with some reasoning. I would like to know what's going on too.

Between 0 and about 20 feet, yes. It is like they are forcing the P4P to beginner speed when under 20 feet to prevent an accident. This is what I suspect. If this is the case they could have chosen the same speed of the P4 at least. It is so slow!

I believe the maximum speed in P mode is 13 metres per second

But why is the P4P slower than the P4 at low altitudes?

So I assume no one has the slightest idea why the P4P is way slower than the P4 under 20 feet?

I've not noticed anyone confirm that it is!

Not many people seem to fly low, but surly someone could confirm that they all do it...

You would think so. But perhaps not many have had both and tested or upgraded and noticed.

I think most people dont want to risk their drones by flying them low and fast. If money is no object, do it. But it only takes a tiny mistake at high speed and low altitude and thats 2000 bucks down the drain.

I agree but that does not answer my question does it?

Why dont you start a new thread , and in the thread title put something like "DJI admin, why does the P4P fly slower at low alititude than the P4?" , they should answer if its addressed to them directly.

Good suggestion. Thank you. I did ask DGI support when I was on the phone to the and they did not know. It seems there are a lot of things that even they do not know and they are not addressed in the manual. Someone knows these things and all these undocumented issues need to be written up.

My new p4p no matter what Alt. IS in fact much slower even at 400 feet! almost 1/2 the speed my old p4 had!

The P4P is supposed to be faster then the P4. So you have a problem for sure unless you are in beginner mode of course.

On my first call to DGI, I found DJI staff did not have any of the answers that I had to find myself which was disappointing.

I meant that the P4 and P4P has a mode on the app called Beginner and in that mode the P4 runs very slow and has limited distance. I am sure you do not have that on.
