while flying the Mavic on a calm day along the shore, a seagull nearly collided with the drone. Travelling at 22 kms/hr the Mavic detected the seagull and put on the breaks. The Mavic stopped really quickly which gave the Seagull just enough time to swerve out of the way and live to tell his friends about it.

In the video you will see the incident at full speed and then in slow motion.

The Mavic and Seagull got to fly another day.

Yep it happened really quickly. The forward detection that applied the brakes really helped.

I am always afraid of birds! This past weekend I had 4 Hawks eyeing my Mavic!

I have noticed that Seagulls seem to be interested in watching the Mavic.

Has anyone had any problems with crows ? I see many of them and stay away from.

Yeah it was a little scary.

Seagulls definitely becoming more aggressive - glad the Mavic survived .... and of course, the 'gull. I remember flying a Trex heli in an absolutely deserted playing field, but, on landing, I realised that I was surrounded by seagulls walking towards me and the heli.  We both survived!

LOL - I think that would still be covered by DJI care though under "normal flight" conditions.. I think the term would be all hitting an UFS, "unidentified flying #@$%" or dump as we polite folks would call it..

I have found that the two most serious considerations for my flying are: wind velocity and hawks. I sometimes take a spotter for the hawks if I need to concentrate on the shoot.  It has saved my Mavic several times.

Seagull attacks? From my Mavic , Seagull ran away!

The Mavic is not silent...it makes a lot of noise so how come the bird did not hear it or maybe there was too much wind?

there was a little bit of wind so not sure. Maybe the speed they were both travelling. I'm not sure how fast a seagull fly's.

Same here, was down near some rapids and saw the hovering at much higher altitude, lowered my craft so did they, then decided not to chance it and brought it back on land just to crash it and falling into water later in the day.  Had to recover my drone from the tree top at around 40' high (fell in the water when it came tumbling down the branches) and lost the battery in the murky water to never be found again.

Wow! Two close calls with gulls!

I was flying near a bridge recently, and as soon as the Mavic took off, suddenly dozens of swallows came swooping out from under the bridge to investigate it. They flew all around it but never directly at it.
