I am trying to set up my P3 Standard I got for Christmas and when I download the DJI GO app and try to connect it shows a picture of the wrong remote control and tells me to hook up my phone to the USB port on my remote. My P3 Standard does not have a USB port on it!
Take a look at the photo, it isn't the same remote as the P3 Standard.
I have had this thing for 4 months now and haven't even been able to get the motors started.

I have swiped left and found the Phantom 3 Standard. But in the connection instructions, the remote is different than mine.
The right picture is in the manual. The picture in the app is wrong.

It should stick, once set. Not sure why yours is being stubborn. Perhaps it needs a swift boot in the arse? Hahaha
These things can be finicky, but for an answer why, is a mystery.
If you're referring to the 'how to connect' instructions in the Go app, it is an issue that has been reported to get rectified. You should follow the instructions from the P3S manual on the DJI Website:

Did you connect your phone with this copter through WIFI anytime yet? The P3S can not be connected through light bridge. Only WIFI.
Thank you. I think that is the answer. I think I need to connect through wifi even though the DJI GO instructions show hooking up a usb cord even for the P3 Standard.

I'll give it another shot through wifi
Once you've swiped right and selected P3S.
Touch, "How to Connect"
Then their is a drop down list top centre of screen below "How To Connect"
Again, select P3S & save.
