Help Please....

I'm very new to shooting in 4k and editing for that matter. When I try to play back on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB Intel HD Graphics 288 MB the video plays back choppy. I've tried to play it in VLC, Quicktime Player, and Imovie all which have been choppy video.

Does anyone know if I need to buy a proper editing software to play and edit in 4K or is it more of a processor/ graphics card issue?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Your Macbook is too wimpy to handle 4K, best get a newer and more powerful one.

Just a thought....

You are playing back these files direct from your hard drive, as opposed to USB stick etc ?

What is your target purpose or audience?  Some folks just record in 1980 x 1080 HD 24 or 30 fps...   Might playback pretty well on your existing Mac.      Smaller files to upload to the internet also (youtube, vimeo, etc).   If you truly want the full resolution 4K for you or your audience, time to upgrade and get a new Mac.  :-)

One of the possible solution is to downscale 4K to 1080p for smooth playback on your Macbook.
