"Failed to lower or pack up landing gear"

I tried to land the aircraft during windy (not too windy) conditions.

The DJI GO 4 app poped out "Failed to lower or pack up landing gear" message.
I tried to lower the gear manualy using my controller (after disabling all the automated stuff).
Nothing happened. I had to risk and catch the drone with my hands.

I can move the gear while using the screw, so it's (probably) not stuck...

However absolutely no success to do so with the controller or by pressing the power button 5 times.
I keep getting the "Failed to lower or pack up landing gear" all the time.

All the firmware is current, restoring the firmware did not help. There were absolutely no damages or hard landings.

Could there be any explanation?

P.S. First rattlling props, then constant "Encoder error 0x4000000", then this trouble with the landing gear.
For that huge pile of money - a terrible DJI experience so far...

Same Problem here.
FIRST flight of my Inspire 2, these message come up.
So i kept the landing gear down for safety.

At home i removed the propellers and the X5s,
started the Motors. Hold it in the air and lowered and raised the gear.
Seems to work, but the message comes up all the time.
Brand new Aircraft, all updates.
What to do?

I will try to start the motors, but so far every single option didn't help.

My guess, it could be either the landing gear motor, or the connector to that motor..

I tested some more at home.
Bringing it several times in and out of Travel Mode, no error, everything fine.
I´ll try to fly again tomorrow outside and see what happens.
Im simply afraid, the gear wont come down anymore and i have to land on my X5s.
What a mess for 6.000 Bucks.

Please keep us posted on how that went. Could you clarify whether or not you noticed this right out of the box, or was it after a firmware update?

Hey Jamie,

im up in the air again. no more errors. I hope, they dont come back when im on a job.

Timeline:
- received I2 with X5s(lens excluded)
- charged batteries
- Fired everything up, no errors.
- Aircraft asked for Firmware update
- Updated via IPad
- Controller didnt need update
- Fired everything up, landing gear error.
- Gone out for flying, the errors in my first post came up, didnt raise the landing gear for safety.
- Back at home, removed X5s
- Started up aircraft without props, errors came up, but raising and lowering landing gear worked.
- Gone Outside, flying without X5s , everything fine. no errors.
- Installed X5s, flying, no errors.

I guess, it had something to do with the latest firmware.
My Flight Logs are synced, maybe the Engineers could take a look?

I had about 20 complete flights before this error occurred.

So far, no success on fixing it

Hmm. As you can move it manually with the screw, did you try to lower it all the way down and then try to use the switch on the remote or the 5 times button combination?
Maybe its only stuck in this up position?

I had the same issue . . . after a couple weeks back/forth with TECH Support I was advised to send it in to the repair center.  DJI Moderators, is there anyway that I can speak with someone in NA that oversee's the repair facility in California OR someone that can actually follow up with the issue ?  I have called several times over the passed week and NO resolution to my issue.  Its critical to my small biz that I have this next week.

I will get to my local repair center and try to figure out the problem.
Obviously, DJI support won't tell you what issues you've been facing with.

I've lost at least 5 projects with my 7000$ broken drone.

How ironic to read....  I'm on my 2nd Inspire 2 because of this very issue.  I also had about 15 flights flawlessly before, without reason, I got a stuck in the up position landing gear....  Now I fly but can never trust the I2... and reading that this is still happening to a number of I2 pilots and STILL DJI has not acknowledged that there is an issue...

This is so out of character for such a well know manufacturer! I was still one of the lucky ones that could get my drone replaced with a new one (after much fighting and messing up relationships) but I fear the day I have to send in my very expensive Inspire 2 to get a used (abused) one back that actually belonged to someone else! (And this abomination of a practice is happening to some pilots that sent in their "new" drones....)

So, as before, the begging question to DJI is:  Is there a problem with the Inspire 2 craft specifically concerning the continuous reports of failing landing gear??

You can try to turn the screw underneath the aircraft anticlockwise.

Just got the failed to pack up issue as well.
Interestingly when turning the screw through the bottom at the same time as flipping the switch on the radio, the legs will come down or go up all the way, so the motor is definitely functioning.
Once the legs are either all the way up or down, there is a "buzzing" coming from the central area,  and it sounds like the motor is continuing to attempt to raise the gear. This lasts for about 5 seconds and then stops, after it stops, the motor will not function until everything is rebooted.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Well here is a little update.

The issue was in fact in the motor drive end stop sensor.
I purchased the middle frame (part 19) and did the swap myself.
I was going to send for repair but couldn't wait more than a few days and shipping to and from Hawaii is expensive. Got the part for $210 from Advexure and the swap took about 2 hours being careful.

To do the swap you need a Torx set, Metric Allen set, J1, and J0 Screwdriver. Don't use Philips. Probably about 30-40 screws, and a couple hammer pin retainers.

I replaced the entire middle assembly, including the shaft and all the arm connections which takes quite a while, but you could easily just remove the top shell, and then unscrew the motor and sensor assembly, and swap it out for the new. You would need to remove the main board covers which are one screw on each side, and easily accessible.

I would have sent it in for warranty repair but have enough jobs coming up i couldn't afford the downtime. This drone is on all my upcoming permits and insurance and i really didn't want to mess with a refurb and the hell that comes with transferring cine licenses, So $200 was worth it to me.

Hope that helps.

So everything works great now right?
Though you get it addressed by yourself, we still don't suggest to do that since warranty may be voided.
We are sorry for the trouble caused, it would be better to send in for repair if other problem occurs in the future.
Thanks for the understanding.

I am having an issue that the landing gear will not fully deploy for landing....it won't make the last 1/2" so the X7 Camera clears the ground. I've done all that DJI suggests, cranking the screw to both ends...and greasing it with Tri Ply Synthetic grease.  With landing lock disabled it fully deploys on my testing bench. But in real life, with landingl lock turned on, it takes 4 - 5 raising/lowering landing gear before it fully deploys to keep camera from hitting the helipad.  I also hear a high pitched squeek at both ends of the screw.  Thoughts?
