What do you think – is the DJI spark an alternative for the DJI Mavic Pro?

Interesting, but EUR599 without controller (EUR799 for Fly More) is too steep for me!
I guess the 16 minutes flight time is OK-ish for its weight...
And why not a black/gray version like Mavic?

I'm not sure if it's an alternative to the mavric but I'll let you know because I ordered 2 of them.

For me it does not do anything.. passing this one up. But I'm glad DJI's innovation train is still running strong. I would love to see the next Mavic iteration.

Definitely not an alternative. Its CE range is pathetic@ 500m.. Its limited to merely 1080p at only 30 fps video and its 2-axis gimbal. At that price is a no-go.

Looks like a fun entry-level "selfie" UAV.  I don't think it competes with the Mavic.  And it's another nail in the GoPro Karma coffin.

It's definitely more for the fun and easy social media aspect. I use my Mavic more than my P4P because of the size, I would imagine this would be used even more often than the Mavic for that reason. It's a little less off putting to those people that freak out about privacy and drones too, it just looks like a toy, which it kind of is.

Just ordered mine. Let's see if it will be as fun flying it as the mavic otherwise will pass it down to the dog!

I think it sort of defeats the object of having a small take anywhere drone when the arms do not fold up, this will make it too vulnerable when transporting and awkward might as well stick with the Mavic!

The arms are actually quite beefy. Overall, it feels incredibly durable.

Well, although I am addicted to these things one of the Sparks I ordered is for my 10 year old grand daughter. She is a pro with these things.

That's good to hear and it does look like a cool piece of kit but it would have been awesome if they could have done fold back arms

2000m in the US, 500m in Europe. And that is on 2.4 GHz. On 5.8 its even worse... 300m in EU. Read the specs.

Can't make my mind up about these. Literally just stopped myself clicking on the buy button and fly more combo. Two reasons really, the range in the UK/Europe is not great. Add in some trees and other obstructions and it's pitiful.

The Spark really needed folding arms. It's probably no more portable than the Mavic in the grand scheme of things.

That moment of doubt made me come back to this forum and read others opinions and thoughts and on reflection I also don't think it's that good value for money either.

You still have to take batteries, charger etc too so if you lay out a case where items are placed between the arms  it really doesn't compromise overall cubic capacity needed to transport the gear if arms folded, the profile of the case used will just be flatter.
This is what i will do with Mavic because I rarely need to be able to fit everything in form factor like the case you get in Mavic flymore combo, Total cubic space isn't much different plus I am not folding and unfolding Mavics arms all the time so that's a benefit also.

"these ranges are rubbish. No thank you!"

Agreed.

I only just heard about the Spark today and had already decided on getting one, but the range is no better or even worse than my Phantom Standard?

My response to that is too rude to post.
