Have you attempted to re calibrate IMU and compass to resolve this issue?

I did, perhaps to much interference , will try again.    Also said when about 3-4 feet off ground maximum altitude had been reached.   Thank you for your response to my issue

What altitude when this happened and what were you hovering above (grass, concrete)? I have found if I hover less than around ten foot above long grass/bushes the bird will lose or gain altitude, turning of the VPS can help.

Please verify whether your Inspire 1 is currently loaded with the problematic firmware version 1.9.1.10 released by DJI on 13 June 2016.

See this thread for details of the problem.

We reported the uncontrolled gaining / loosing of altitude after aircraft was upgraded to that particular version of firmware. DJI diagnosed our flight logs promptly, and sent out limited release of firmware version 1.9.1.21 to those of us who reported the problem for testing on 1 Jul 2016. DJI subsequent pulled off the problematic firmware and released to the general public the new firmware version 1.9.1.30 on 7 Jul 2016.
