It was built for John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire but I never managed to work out if he's in there or not.

The wiki article on it just says the inside is used as a chapel,  no mention of a burial.

Perhaps it's more of a memorial to him. The aristocracy usually have family tombs in the church grounds built within their own family estate. Imagine having the money to have a church built in your garden (often tens of thousands of acres)

It was commissioned in 1793 by Lady Caroline Suffield, the daughter of John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, as a tomb for her father and his two wives.

Wow that's interesting. what was the connection to the Egyptian Pyramid tombs. Were there realations or a fascination with the culture.

It was actually modelled on the Italian pyramid of Cestius that I think was made during an Egyptian revival period that they went through.

Great shot DA.   That is quite the interesting mausoleum.  It that shot it does look a bit remote.  

Very curious mausoleum. I think your POV nicely puts an emphasis on the shape and the location among the surroundings. Nice shot, thanks for sharing

We didn’t realise before it was related to Blicks and feel we should have gone in.   But it’s NT so I had to fly in from the road and stay high to see the drone.

It does indeed.    there was a hunting lodge built in Raleigh supposedly to entertain her and she also allegedly stayed in this old house opposite an old friends house,    The hunting lodge was a pub Ive been to a few times

It was locked when we were there, but the windows are clear (no glasss) and there was just a table and chair inside.
