A monument built 1966/67 commemorating Friedland as a place for Germans returning from war prison and from parts of the former "Reich" as it got smaller because of the wars.


Seems a bit psychodelic so here's normal picture...

My grandson had his final test today in his German language class.  He said they had to translate 7 sayings into English and this one stuck in his head and I have no idea why.  

Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei.

His German teacher was born in Hanover, Germany and married an American Army Sergeant and has been in the US now for about 12 years.  So she supposedly is teaching them some of the local sayings so the above may not mean what a strict translation is.

Yes, that's a German saying, somewhere between funny and stupid. I don't think there's a hidden meaning in this one (but if his teacher says there is please tell me...). But it should always be good to have a native speaker teaching their own language

He said she was the most liked teacher in the school.  She tells them real life stories about growing up in Germany and during the school year she has shown them thousands of pictures of locations throughout Germany.  We need more teachers like this for sure.

Here in southern Florida I've met a lot of really friendly German visitors.  

Unfortunately, this teacher's husband is retiring in the next 18 months and he wants to move back to the Pacific Northwest to live in retirement.  So the kids have her for one more year for German II.

From the videos I've seen of the PNW I can understand him though mainly people move towards Florida in retirement. Well nothing is more constant than change, isn't it?

People seem to move here for retirement because of the better weather.  However, if the cost of housing continues to rise I'm thinking other destinations will soon be sought after.  The PNW is fantastic if you want to get all 4 seasons.  I was tired of shoveling snow, driving in snow, etc so when I retired I looked for a spot where it never snowed.  Another draw was the availability at the time to buy a large chunk of land that had ocean access.

Well ocean access

Ocean access was a definite requirement as I had already purchased my new home (the mini-yacht) and needed to be able to get underway as desired or needed.  It's nice when you can leave before a hurricane is definitely coming your way.  Can't do that in a land house.  

I'm not sure why it is classified as a mini-yacht as it is only 23 meters long.  I think I posted the picture some time back but in case I didn't here is one of it tied up temporarily behind my son's home.

It's the moving of the lens that causes this, since the drone does not rotate around the center of the lens.
Not much we can do about it, but it's a shame because these type of shots could get very interesting and sell-able without the stitching errors.

Maybe stich them manually. It's better when the motive is further away then the lens shift doesn't matter as much.

Yeah, the further away, the less noticeable.
But those close by spheres are (for me) the most interesting.
They even sell special tripod heads (nodal ninja etc.) to get the lens aligned with the rotating point.
Now when I think about it, DJI, could probably make it work like that too. Just less precise.
