Hi there,

I would live to try the HDR Video Setting but just can't find it.

On the Homepage, DJI lists some requirements in the footnotes like "EIS needs to be disabled! 4k/60 etc".
As far as I can see, I checked everything.

But still, I can't find an HDR option. Only "normal" and D-log M.

Am I still missing Something, or will it be added later via update?
______

Update 2024/04/23:

As stated by DJI Tony, there is no dedicated 'HDR On/Off' switch. As long as you use these settings, HDR is always enabled automatically:

Aspect ratio: 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@60/50/30fps
Aspect ratio: 4:3; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps
With EIS set to RockSteady or HorizonSteady:
Aspect ratio: 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps
Aspect ratio: 4:3; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps

Hi there. If the following shooting specifications are used for video recording, DJI Avata 2 enables the HDR mode by default:
With EIS disabled:
Aspect ratio: 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@60/50/30fps
Aspect ratio: 4:3; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps
With EIS set to RockSteady or HorizonSteady:
Aspect ratio: 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps
Aspect ratio: 4:3; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@30fps
I hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Hi there. If the following shooting specifications are used for video recording, DJI Avata 2 enables the HDR mode by default:
With EIS disabled:
Aspect ratio: 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@60/50/30fps

What do you mean with "by default"?

So, it's always HDR whenever I record with EIS on 16:9, 4k, 30FPS?

I thought there would be a separate button for it to switch it on/off.

Hi you can find the information in the user manual of the DJI product.

I think the way it works is you have to set your camera settings from normal to D-Log M and then color grade it to get HDR as log has all the data you need to convert it to Rec709 SDR screen or HDR 2020 open to corrections.

Hi you can find the information in the user manual of the DJI product.

Great help.

As far as I can see, the Manual doesn't mention HDR at all:

As far as I know, HDR should be something different.

At least, for example, with GoPro it is this way:

Arri_fpv is right! this video that you posted as example was delivered in REC709 SDR not HDR look at the stats on youtube
to get HDR you need to record in Log profile and then color grade it or use free HDR lut  ( davinci resolve ) has free version
after you finished with it export it Rec2020 or HLG Rec 2021 then you can watch it on your screen or phone in true HDR if your device supports it btw.

I guess your approach is too technical.

Look at the product page:
https://www.dji.com/de/avata-2#9 ... Brille%20justieren.

It lists HDR and D-Log as 2 separate things.
Even DJI Tony is referring to "HDR mode" above, instead of saying "Select D-Log M"...

I think he means that HDR is automatically enabled when you record using one of the settings he has listed i.e. if want to record 4K/60 in HDR you need to be using the 16:9 aspect ratio with EIS disabled. If you want to record in 4K with HDR enabling EIS to use RockSteady or HorizonSteady the framerate must be set at only 30fps.

Feels weird, if it's really enabled by default then.
Does that mean, I can also combine HDR mode with Dlog M?

Look at the product page:

I do applogize for being too technical
it list them alright but i still think they way it works the footage must be captured in bigger spectrum than 709 space which is limited to what 5 plus stops , i know I’m going off with technical but that’s the only way i can explain it, in order to capture TRUE HDR u need Log profile as it contains at least 11plus stops of lights or luma as HDR requires it

Well, 4k60 HDR *is* available, it's just limited to 16:9 aspect ratio. So technically not wrong.

Hello. Yes, there is no option in the settings to toggle HDR. The parameters need to be set to enable or diable it. Thank you for understanding.

Hi, Thank you for reaching out. It is available in Aspect ratio 16:9; recording at 4K/2.7K/1080p@60/50/30fps as mentioned above. The site says it supports HDR at 4K/60fps

Have a nice day.

It's just the limitations of the camera and drone I guess. Recording 4K/60 HDR in rocksteady in either aspect ratio would be too much for the drone to process so something has to give to make it work. Stick to a 16:9 ratio and turnoff EIS and you'll record in 4K HDR at 60fps or switch to 30fps and turn on rocksteady and still record in 4K HDR due to the lower frame rate.
Would be good if there was an indicator to show that HDR recording has been enabled to save having to remember all of these limitations to make HDR recording work.

I also vote for older style proper switch HDR ON/OFF
way more intuitive that way

Well, I guess you're expecting some sort of "true" HDR, while the actual HDR mode is "just a color setting" for some Drones and Actioncams...and Smartphones.

Thanks for the clarification!

At least now I know, there is no dedicated Option/Checkbox that doesn't show up.

Sorry my fault.
There was no mention on this website that this feature is only available in 16:9 format.
That is a bit misleading

Thanks Tony for clarifiyng

I thought HDR meant bt 2020 but all my files from the drone stayed bt.709 (SD content) regardless of Rocksteady on or off in 4K/60 16/9
Am I wrong or Avata is always record in SD mode there's why there is no switch called HDR but in certain less taxing modes camera improves dynamic range and its called HDR ?
