I have today noticed that two of my three batteries were slightly swollen today after flying. The batteries were quite warm, so I've put the swelling down to the heat and have allowed them to cool for a few hours before finally charging them. I am worrying a little now, as I read above that the swollen batteries can explode while charging - meanwhile, only the first of the two batteries has started to charge. #prayforme
The batteries are originals which came with the drone, when purchased ~2.5 years ago. I can't be sure without checking, but I'm certain the batteries have less than 100 cycles each.
Due to living in the UK, sometimes I can't fly for weeks but leave the batteries in the 3-way charging hub. I've always understood and found that the batteries discharge themselves when not used for a while, putting my trust in the hub and the 'intelligent' batteries to do their work.
When using the batteries, I usually try not to get below 20%, aiming for 25% most of the time. I don't charge the batteries up if they have discharged themselves, but maybe I should?
If the batteries are significantly swollen after a successful charge, I am going to put the swelling down to heat. Otherwise, there is something wrong with how I store and/or use the batteries. |
