Our 8 (nearly 9) year old grandson is a bit of a whizz with Scratch coding, so when and if it's available in the UK it could be his 2018 Christmas present from us.

But only after a period of  comprehensive flight testing by Grandad of course!

Seems to be available on "Heliguy's" website which is a UK dealer

It would appear its only using DJI Technology. Not a new DJI drone. Its made by Ryze Robotics.

Well the WIFI can't be any worse than the Spark's connection.

So if spark is a baby Mavic , and this Tello is a baby spark....
Bottom line ,If you are on a budget = buy Tello

I can see those recommendation an the forum as we speak

The detailed info makes mention of a RC which would be great, but I can't seem to find out any further info on what RC to use.

Disregard my prior post...I found the info:

Tello is currently compatible with the Gamesir remote controller or Apple MFi - Certified Bluetooth remote controllers

Seems like it's a competitor to Parrot Mambo.

I remember reading that Parrot is exiting the consumer drone market

I've just pre-ordered mine!

This looks like it’ll be fun.   

Not sure I see the improvement over any other drone in the 140 usd market e.g Blue Heron RC U49W

Arm's seem to be very breakable. Especially in the current climate of brand new Xmas presents being crashed and flown into tree's by little Timmy and Sebastian. Looks too flimsy for my liking but maybe be more repairable than some...?? No likey the look of it with the training guards on, jus makes it look cheaper than it does already. Call me picky but at least DJI craft have a certain quality look to them, regardless of certain current issues. Defo looks like a Parrot. Maybe it will come with a fair ground grabber or something else duff.

Is "Apple Mfi" Apple made for idiots? har har sorry we had a cheap furniture store here in the in the UK called MFI and it gained the nickname of made for idiots as your normally bought it at least twice!

That 100 meters represent DJI meters which actually = 20 meters to the consumer

Tello Looks like a throw away drone! but great idea to get people into DJI products with out needing to sell a kidney might just buy one for the hell of it (what would be awesome is if they had the firmware and capability to create swarms of them now that would be cool especially if they could all stream their images at the same time!

The videos seem to indicate that it can be flown over water and in built up areas so is DJI saying it can do what they suggest the spark can’t?!
Or is the vps and Wi-fi connection different to that used by spark

Brushed motor means low cost and little durability, I just need to know if it will be easy to replace, I would love to see kids programming and piloting this toy, but I would not want to see children with soldering iron.

Also it has a 'rocket' mode , but camera looks fixed.So I deduce it has 2 cameras.Brushed motors disappointing.....

Is it usually best to wait for Dji preorder or to use a third party reseller (who are already taking orders)?

I think it is enough for the little children. Form a hobby when they are young.
