i agree i would love to use wifi only but i think there is too much going on the remote has to communcate with the phone and AC over WIFI at the same time. i think having a wired connection between the phone and RC will allow better data send

I prefer OTG and switch to 2.4ghz as i´m using Android and life i the EU.
When i connect the phone to the controller via WiFi i just can get 5.8ghz to work and i´m really not happy with the new WiFi connection as i get video lags way under 100 meters on 5.8 ghz.
For me the Wifi connection is more disappointing as before the latest FW update.
Only OTG makes a little fun to fly the Spark!

couldnt agree more, wifi just isnt there yet. but they need to recognize that we use OTG now so its not a mission to set up and mere plu n play

By using OTG  which is not officially supported by DJI, are we voiding our warranty in the event of a crash ?

That's a question for DJI moderators, but I don't think it will violate warranty.  At least I don't think it will violate DJI Care Refresh terms.  DJI Care Refresh covers circumstances including pilot error (as long as craft can be recovered).

Also, OTG is the only supported method for connecting to DJI Goggles.  It would be odd that DJI cover a crash using the goggles and OTG but would not cover an incident using OTG and phone.

I can´t believe this! You US Guys have so much luck. Today while i was flying in a narrow canyon to film some waterfalls, i was connected via WiFi with the controller and had terrible lag in Video performance at less than 50 Meters, very poor performance. It was not possible to get a good looking shot around the falls. It´s a absolute shame{:4_157:}

I haven't noticed any difference using the OTG cable so far, and I find it quite a hassle to get my mobile connected to the RC through the OTG cable. I am not sure if I am doing it correctly, but my mobile wouldn't connect to the RC unless I pair it up through the WiFi first, then plugging the OTG cable, then switching my mobile to airplane mode.

I have no choice to use otg until dji fix 2.4ghz bug in uk. They have known of it for 4 months if you go back on threads of the problem. In uk we cannot connect to 2.4 ghz so are stuck on 5.8 that has lousy range. I paid for 500 meters 100meters is n where near it. I sold my phantom to buy this and no wors from dji at all.

A few posts state limited flying distance with wifi/ better distance with OTG.
I'm sorry but am I missing something?  Isn't the WiFi connection between the smarthphone and RC and therefore should have nothing to do with flying distance, which is the link between the RC and the drone?

yeah unfortunately, it seems that cellphone reception bluetooth and others all interfere with the connection between the rc and the ac. turning all that off already improves quality but i also believe that then removing the wifi between phone and rc allows even better connection using otg.

Wifi seems the only option for me ...  I am in Curacao ,, not many laws here against drones or distance ,, just common sense , but my OTG has worked the first week, after that it will no longer connect properly , and or when it does connect it will disconnect again and tells me aircraft disconnected .
Guess ill keep it to WIFI... found out that many routers all over are on the 2.4ghz.. and causes interference with pairing the RC.. so switched to 5.8 and seems to work flawless .
everything so far is fine... happy with the drone and now ready to fly again.

Hi,
But you can turn off cellphone/mobile reception and BT and just leave WiFi on.

Tested once more today with .600 FW and 5.8Ghz in CE mode (an open field @100m height, BT off):
- Wifi: about 250m range
- OTG: About 450m
I get a lot of "signal weak" warnings starting at 100m (worse in wifi mode than OTG mode).

As mentioned before by many people it really doesn't make sense why OTG should be better than wifi because it uses a different band for the Phone - RC connection, but it does make a difference somehow! It is up to DJI to find the cause and solve this for us in EU!

It would be very nice to get a confirmation from a DJI admin that this issue is being worked on!
BTW: Obviously when I use the FCC patched apk, all issues go away and I can get to 900m in FCC mode without any issues at all in that same location.

Also tried that, but even though range is increased a bit, the image is less smooth (much lag, maybe interference locally).

I'm flying my Spark in the UK and it does work on 2.4GHz for me. I just have to manually select it each time, as it defaults back to 5.8GHz when I change the battery in the Spark. The signal is much better (on 5.8GHz I would get 2 WiFi bars at around 80m away from me and on 2.4GHz I get 2 bars at maybe 250m or even more).

In Eu if you have an Android phone, you cannot use 2.4 ghz without OTG. As 2.4 ghz CE works much better than 5.8 CE it's better to use OTG . If DJI implements 2.4GHZ CE on the channels that are permitted in EU and visible from android phones there wil be no need of using the OTH cable.
I have tested an FCC Spark and it's a really diffent drone. No video problems and very low lag even at 500 meters. My Spark at 400 meters (5.8 CE) has a video signal unreliable.

I believe the while the OTG cable allows you to lock the wifi band to 2.4Ghz not only between the RC & the phone but also between the RC & the Spark... moving away from the 5.8Ghz that is not widely supported in EU, that would be the only logical (???) explanation.

On the other hand OTG is not officialy supported so what will happen if we have an accident and they decide not to cover it?

Diablo, here you go. OTG is not recommended as it will void the warranty.

Hey everyone, I'm very new to this so I have a question. (I'm running the latest FW)
I plug my OTG cable into the RC, and then into my Iphone 6S.
I switch on my RC.

Try making the last connection to the RC with the OTG end of the cable. I was having trouble until I started this procedure and now it connects every time.

I used OTG with iphone for a while. Got lots of lost signal and RTH. (CE region).
OTG or not did not make noticeable difference..
Today I selected 2.4GHz and a free channel, turned bluetooth off on phone and watch. No OTG. 5 flights.
Much better. I reached 720m at 100m height, where I chose to return, because video had a short dropout.
Just wish it could remember the chosen wifi band (2.4GHz) and pick a free channel there, so I don’t need to set it before every flight.
