Looking at this is pretty typical of what I’m getting from mine. Possibly, mine is a little bit worse but I have also noticed that not only close objects look indistinct, but detailed background like leaves in trees  also look a bit lacking.

It gives the impression that the lens isn’t  focused in any plane, particularly well. Maybe just a cheaper lens and that’s all that can be got from it. Great pity.

Hope to be fixed in newer batches, thats why I ask if anybody have 2022/10 or 11 unit

my face is against the sun,in a very well-lit room, the timer is on two seconds
Daylight... did you see something in focus ?

In my opinion absolutely not, but it remains my opinion.
It looks like there is motion blur.

Already sent it back again.... Outside, inside, good sunny daylight, low light, the result is the same - focus is missing

Something funny... DJI Avata seems to have the same lens etc. as DJI Action 3.
Same FOV, same resolution.. BUT focus range 0.6m => ∞ on Avata and 0.3m => ∞ on Action 3.

I did a fast test with my Avata  and action 3 on the same distance ... left A3, right Avata.. And what do we see there?

First pic 30cm, second pic 60cm

It's normal for them to go ahead with production batches, but I don't think they're going to change the lens group or anything, or they would then be forced to replace it in all previous products with a global recall If word gets out that the new ones are more in focus.

Time will tell. Maybe they changed some things in assembley line after all of this fuzz about focus. Who knows? We sill see.

Nice result.
By how many degrees did you rotate the lens group and in what direction? CW or CCW?
It should be checked, however, whether the focus in the distance has been maintained.
Because this thing of rotating the lens assembly puzzles me, why would DJI choose that kind of hardware tuning about the focus If it was possible how do you see having a better focus at short distance?
Perhaps because then it would not be well in focus in the distance?

approx. 10° CCW.
Focus in the distance  seems to be still good.
We have pretty bad weather conditions now, so i was not able to make some extensive tests.

Мaybe they changed something small in the newer production that could lead to an improvement in focus

To all those who are planning to try it.

Small recommendation before you try. Let the camera film several times for a longer time until it shuts down due to overheating. This loosens the glue and the lens can be turned easily afterwards.

Good method, however just bring all the body to a temperature of 70/80 degrees withut the battery inside, no component will damage that temperature.
If it is epoxy glue anyway it will tend to crumble even when heated, so in my opinion better to unscrew the lens group totally, clean the sensor and glue residue, reassemble everything by putting some glue like Bostik or similar.
Better to proceed anyway if you also consider the potential damage to the cam, maybe with Care Refresh you are better off.
Perhaps by keeping the preview on a good tablet I do not rule out accurate calibration without standing around taking photos.

In my opinion this is too much action for a small rotation.

This is also NOT epoxy glue.  Calibration by using an iPad is possible, but you will still have to make some pics and compare them on a big display, because the preview in the dji mimo app is not good enough.

That is true, but in private live streaming instead I would say that would be the best solution.

Yes, I mean keeping the streaming preview without going public.
I don't remember what resolution it streams at, but certainly enough to make that calibration.

I think they may be enough to evaluate the focus, I mean to look for the best spot by turning the ring.

Well, that doesn't sound good. What happens if the camera is on a bicycle, going on a rough road (not necessarily fast) and you are filming 4k/60. The camera overheats which will affect the glue and the constant shaking could loosen the lens (eventually) and the camera could get even more out of focus?

I can't believe the overheating would have such an effect on the glue since that would be really bad.

No that would not happen because the lens is tight enough in the sealing ring.

If 30cm close focus and infinity far focus - can be simply achieved by rotating the lens group a few degrees - then there you go.  Simply a lens calibration to sensor solution.  Good job problem solving.  Now question is - what will DJI do about this for current dissatisfied users and future customers.

All those happy with the device as is - and really not that concerned with sharp focus - need not be even contacted.

It's that simple. But it seems that DJI has strict rules for its collaborators, forum mods and various people who represent them. So we on the forum don't get to know anything other than a standard answer every time.
