Hi all. I am getting back into flying RC again (used to fly helicopters) and I have decided to go with the Phantom 2, Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal with a gopro 4 camera.
I want to get fpv (which I have never had before), and have been looking for which setup I think will be best. I am stuck of which setup I should get. By the look of it Lightbridge has everything I will need and looks like it will be the easiest as I will only have 1 light box (70g) to attach to the phantom.
I want a range of around 1.7km for both the video and flight of the drone, and I want gimbal control. Is it an overkill going for the Lightbridge? Is there another option where I won't have to add too much weight to the phantom but get similar range, osd, and gimbal control?
The other thing is I see that both the phantom and Lightbridge use 2.4ghz. I see I will need another transmitter such as the Futaba 14sg. Is it easy to set up the controller as I have never used training cables or anything like that before?
I don't really want to go much over AUD $3000 (around USD $2600).
I am starting to research into what I want now, and will be looking at ordering something mid December as I am currently on my honeymoon and will be back home January, so I am in no rush.
Thanks,
Michael

I believe Lightbridge works by sending control and receiving video over different channels, that's why its recommended for the Phantom 2.
So no need for another transmitter or booster.

The Lightbridge is a good solution, but definitely not the common one.
Most Phantom 2 pilots (including myself) go with the a small video transmitter like the ImmersionRC. Only weighing 18 grams and costing $70, it's lighter on both your Phantom and your wallet!

ImmersionRC 600mW

You'll still need a monitor like this (or goggles) to receive the video from the ImmersionRC transmitter.

Black Pearl FPV Monitor

Finally, you'll want an iOSD Mini. It's also small sends the important data to your screen (height, speed, flight mode, battery percentage, home location etc)

Should all be around $3-400 but it's a great solution if you don't feel comfortable flying around a $2800 quad.
No need for another controller and the range is great too, lots of Youtube videos with people going about 2 miles.

Thank you Cloud9. Very helpful. Might be better for me getting the option you pointed out, especially if it will be fairly similar.

As long as you don't need waypoints, this method is much more cost effective than lightbridge.
Less mods to do and a lighter quad.
You may want the plug and play cable to hook it up without soldering..makes it much easier.

Plug and Play cable (I hate soldering)

If customer has a P2 V+, then  you don't need the lightbridge. As app can support the video transmit fucntion, the only  regret is that the video is not HD.
