It all depends what your planning on using it for.

Ok, thanks. I guess mostly for cinematic filming

Osmo Action is compact and robust. You can film in places and situations you cannot with the pocket. But it has a fixed focus (big loss for cinematic shots), digital stabilization is never as good as a real gimbal and most importantly, if you are using the stabilization the true resolution is only around 2.7K (upscaled to 4K). Pocket can record stabilized proper 4K. Action is also 2 stops darker if you are considering low light use.

You can buy multiple batteries for the action but with the pocket you will have to use a power bank if you need more than a single charge's use.

Pocket is delicate, has a narrow field of view, and might be considered odly shaped, especailly for mounting. But I would say it is the better camera in general...

With the little fiddling I did with the Osmo Action, I was really impressed with its stabilization.

But, for a truly "cinematic" film, start with a storyboard. "Cinematic" has little to do with camera, filters and equipment in general.

Also I like to strap my action camera to the side of the car,  you can't really do that with the Osmo.

I have the Osmo Pocket and I use mostly when I travel and it’s such an amazing little camera. I really don’t know about the Osmo  Action but I am thinking about getting the next version of it when it’s released

Both cameras are very nice and alot of fun to use IMHO.  For now, I mainly use the OP to make motion time lapses and the OA when I'm mountainbiking. But I do have a few ideas for projects that may require both cameras.

I have op and GoPro hero 6. I find the op has more flexibility and is suitable for all kinds of filming, ie holidays, sight seeing , parties etc   I use it more than my GoPro. The GoPro I use for  action events ie I’ve put it on a car, my bicycle etc. So they are different tools for different jobs. If push came to shove and I could only have one, either the op or the osmo action I would choose the op Purely for the flexibility
