Hello, tomorrow my DJI Action 3 will be delivered. I'm wondering how good the mic is and if I should buy an external mic.
I mainly want to shoot nature videos and walk around the city. In the nature videos, for example, the sound of waves and the chirping of birds should be heard in the forest. Basically the background noise.
The Action 3 has 3 microphones... are they suitable for clear sound? If not, can you recommend a simple, good microphone (USB-C) for my purpose? I think that shotgun microphones are not good for this purpose?
Thanks for the help!

Audio from the camera is quite good, but if it is windy you really need an external one of some kind with wind muff whether you are trying to record your own voice commentary or something further away.
You can input audio via the USB-c port if you have a mic with that style connection plug it may well connect with no issues.
You might be able to use a USB-A mic with adapter to USB-C
If not you will need a short USB-C to 3.5mm TRRS adapter.
Note the TRRS input seems to be needed.
If your microphone has TRS plug you will need a second TRS to TRRS adapter to connect to the USB-C adapater, so far as I know.
The adapters sold for other cameras in general are not suitable including other DJI products such as pocket 2.
You need a short adapter lead like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113649037383 (known to work)

Actually you doesn't need TRRS mic adapter or mic.
I have bought this and it work great with any TRS mic

Hello there real_martinmcfl. Good day and thank you for reaching out. You can connect the DJI Osmo Action 3 with a third-party microphone via the universal 3.5mm Type-C cable. In addition, There are altogether 3 microphones on the DJI Osmo Action 3, with 2 at the nameplate and 1 on the right side of the camera bottom panel ( with the front touchscreen facing toward the operator ) for clear sound recording. Thank you.

It sounds like you'd like the Sennheiser Ambeo headset which gives binaural high quality sound.  It can be bought very cheaply now as it's discontinued.

See for an example of this in use with the Action 2 - I would be very surprised if it didn't work with the Action 3.  Read the video description for further info especially about the adapter required to convert from Lightning to USB-C.

The advantage of this mic is that as you wear it, you don't have to devise a way to attach it out of the camera's view.  And the stereo (binaural) image is excellent.

An action camera microphone attachment is made only to provide excellent sound quality. Whether you use a GoPro, DJI Osmo, or other action cameras, a quality microphone will enhance your audio recording in the fastest and easiest way. But when you go to buy a quality microphone attachment, there are some things you must consider.
For example, you must have a keen eye on Device Compatibility, Sensitivity, Microphone Type, Microphone Adapters, Source Of Power, and many others. When you get your desired microphone and you're about to buy it, please ensure your camera mic matches the three (03) best features. And they are 1) Power Supply [Battery, External Power Source], 2) Plug Connector [Tip-Sleeve/TS, Tip-Ring-Sleeve/TRS, Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve/TRRS, XLR], 3) Your Budget. I've used the Shure MV88+ with the Action 2 and it works well - needs a 'dead cat' to avoid wnd noise of course, but so does any external mic.

With Osmo Action 1 you need the Cynova adapter and a mic with TRS plug for it to work.
