For some reason, mine is v1.8.0. Released two weeks ago to support M3 Classic.

Are you using iOS? It doesn’t work well at all. Use the correct updating software for your class of drone. Found on DJI website. Works a treat

DJI can you CONFIRM this statement?

"........If you do this update, you must keep your phone connected to the goggles during your flight for Remote ID.  If you disconnect your phone during the flight, the drone will stop and hold position until you reconnect your phone.  You cannot turn this feature off."  

I'm holding off on making any updates until I have a firm grasp on what these updates are doing and how they impact my flight experience.  It is sounding as though your phone MUST ALWAYS
be tethered to your goggles in order to operate the AVATA drone.

And also: Does this apply to US pilots only, where Remote ID is active? Or does this also apply to any non-US pilots?

Complete BS! If I need to be hooked up to a phone to fly I will probably NEVER update.

That would be unacceptable.  Nowhere on their sales page do they state that an active internet connection is required, which could be construed as false advertising.

I expect no problems since remote ID is not active in my country.
However, if I do encounter any problems, I could always downgrade the firmware.

I've heard you can't downgrade....not sure if you can confirm (if problems arise).  Though, as you mentioned..it shouldn't impact you if outside the US (but a lot still unconfirmed at this point).

Can any brave one that already did the update confirm if FCC hack still works? And if the connected phone thing is only for US? Also does the new implemented security from dji  stops the tumble?

Yikes - the new RemoteID implementation does make things interesting... the need for the phone to be connected to take off and not see an error is another level of frustration... maybe we can get a small USB GPS Receiver to connect to the headset on its own?  no need for a phone then?

Well...at this point plenty of videos out there confirming this new firmware WILL require you to have your phone connected to your goggles to fly (take off).  And, if you disconnect the phone from your goggles you'll receive the following error  message (and will NOT be able to take off);


REMOTE ID ERROR!   (shown iin Goggles Display Screen)


STATUS Menu in Goggles:
Remote ID error:  Unable to take off.  Connect goggles
to DJI Fly to obtain goggles location.  Flying without broadcasting
required remote ID messages may violate local regulations.


Also, was able to confirm people who have upgraded to the newest firmware WERE able to downgrade to previous firmware versions.

This is a horrible update - what if you are flying with a display connected to your goggles.  this cannot be a requirement to have a phone plugged in to fly.  where is this even in the RID spec? its not, there is no internet requirement.  please fix this and remove this requirement...

Its not an active internet, it needs the GPS position info from the phone.  The goggles dont seem to have their own GPS system so the phone is required.

great job DJI, finally a firmware update.

Lucky for me i am outside from US so i can still fly without the phone stuff i guess...
But what about the yaw-death problem, so does it fix that?

Remote ID error after the Goggles 2 v01.03 update.  After the goggles 2 and Avata connect you get a remote id error. It only goes away if you connect the goggles to your phone with a cable and DJI Fly running. If you disconnect the cable the remote id error comes back and will not allow you to fly.  Hundreds of people on YouTube have confirmed this is happening to them as well.  Rolling  back gets rid of the error but then the drone does not let you start the propellers to take off.
