It appears that Remote Controller is back in stock in many stores, including DJI store at Aliexpress:

It's still not clear why it was in short supply for so long, but the wait is over now.

The price on aliexpress is still rediculous ;)

it is also in stock in the EU store:

in dutch stores (retailers) it is still not in stock, only dji's own shop
