Time to fix the mess from the previous owner that I recently discovered when removing the windows.
Evening well spent and a nice new purpose for the old door frame we removed earlier.

Nice update Peter.    Wow, whoever did that mod had no idea in the world what they were doing.  Total disaster.  The fix looks really great.  Nice repurpose of the window frame.  No doubt the kids will enjoy the stilts.

So far I have only bought 7 pieces of lumber in the whole build.
The rest is repurposed.

Yeah, it looked like the best way. I screwed a straight piece of wood on the face of the frame (the part that was still good) and that gave me a level surface to put the router on (on both sides of the bit)
Next I used one of those bits with a wheel so it would stop in time and set the depth to the deepest part that I could find.
The rest was just taking it easy.
The upper and lower parts are out of reach, so I used a multitool,  chisel + sander to get it reasonably straight.

Cant have been too easy in situ like that,   Id imagine it was a bit arkward.

The routing part was the easy part after I screwed that plank to give a stable base.
I just had to do it slowly because it can go wrong very quickly.

The multitool + hand tools were quite a bit of work still (and not perfectly straight, but good enough)

I've saved myself a trip to town on many occasions by keeping things that I think I might be able to reuse.  I'm not a hoarder but I try to minimize things going to the landfill.

I don't have enough space to keep everything I want to keep, but sometimes that is also a good thing

Yeah, it's not always easy to figure out what to keep and what to discard.  Sometimes I wish had a huge auxiliary building to just store stuff in but then I'd overkeep for sure.
