It was very nice. Spent time with my son. Cut off from cell service, burned some wood, had some scotch and cigars, and cooked on the fire all weekend. Very Nice.

Now that's what I call a wonderful outing.  Kind of reminds me of being back in the Boy Scouts and going out for a weekend campout.

That's kind of like what it was. I miss it. I don't have a horse in the game anymore so volunteering is like being a third wheel. I like the adult camping even ore, but you need to find the right mix of camping partners.

You are right about the third wheel when you no longer have a horse in the game.  I did it for 2 years after my son left scouts and it was just never the same again.

Same here. The new people have their own thoughts on how they want to run it. Usually less adherence to the rules and less responsibility. To me the most important part of scouting is morals and self reliance.

The new peoples way seems to be contrary to the scout's oath and the twelve principles a scout lives by.

You said it. The last group was only interested in short cuts to merit badges and helping their kids get their Eagle.  I congratulated some of the parents saying that their mom worked very hard on it.

That's a shame as that doesn't help the boys grow and learn at all.

It's diluting the purpose of scouting but they have their hands full trying to stay relevant in an environment that wants technology overdoing things physically.

That really paints a bleak future for scouting.  Lord Baden-Powell surely is rolling over in his grave.
