I have a little problem, when I format the sd card in the DJI Osmo Action 4, I can not transfer files via the OTG/USB connection to a Windows 11 computer, only to the MiMO App, Apple and Linux computer. When I format the card on a Windows computer and put it in the camera there are no problems. Anyone have this too ?

I transfer to the pc, via usb C/OTG, I either delete all off the driver, then the next time I am ready I format, shoot, and transfer, to repeat.   No issues, win 11  user

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

This is only working with Apple iOS and Linux computers, but not with Windows 10/11 computers, the Osmo Action format the card in a way Windows can't handle. I have contact DJI technical support for this problem and the are looking at this.

I get in the shop the recommended card Kingston CANVAS Go! Plus 128GB U3 A2 V30 microSDXC,

I have the same symptoms with my Windows computer.
When I connect via OTG/USB the first time it works after safe disconnect the camera from the computer, and make a video, and plug it back in the computer I get the message "this card must be formatted "

So nothing have change,  I discover when I format the sd card in Windows with a cardreader ( so not in the camera ) it is working, so I think its the way the Osmo Action 4 is formatting the card is not right for Windows computers.

Sorry I was typing it wrong , I am running the latest firmware already 01.04.07.10.
I did some research and I discover that the camera format the sd card in an Linux based file system,
so the boot sector of the card is not recognized by Windows and gives that format warning.

That's not correct, then it should not be possible to read the card with a card-reader that I use on my Win10 pc.

Do you format the card in Windows, when I format the card in the camera I have the same problem in a card-reader, the bootsector on the card is corrupt.

I never format in windows and always in camera.

Then it's something faulty with either your card-reader, or card or camera.

Thank you Johansen, it got me thinking, what I did was connect the camera via the OTG/USB cable to transfer the images, after disconnect the camera from the Windows computer the card becomes corrupt. I now only use a new purchased cardreader and thats going very well no problems. It's just a bit more difficult because you have to remove the card from the camera and put it in the cardreader , but it's manageable this way :-)

I also use win 11 and get no issues. I format every time I make a new video in camera and my computer sees the files. It looks like there may be an issue with the Action. Windows doesn’t have some form of protection to stop usb’s working without permissions or something do they?

Hi Ian, when I format in the camera and make a video the first time I plugin the camera with the usb cable I see the files, but after disconnect the camera from the computer and plug it in again the card is not readable in Windows and you have to format it again. I think indeed its a sort of protection from Windows.

Remember to always wait for many seconds (up to 30 maybe) before removing any card/cameras after files have been accessed, or it can damage the card. So will think that's what have happend.

I never thought of that. Corrupting the card! To be sure, you can right click and then 'remove safely'.

Many people actually never think or know about how USB units works with the buffer transfer.
They actually always recommend using that remove safely function.

Interesting, I will test that remove delay, when my card is corrupted and I run chkdsk /f it always find an error in the bootsector of the card, after the repair it can be accessed again.

I had experienced this and am trying to recall how I fixed the problem. There is a micro-SD card compatibility issue with how different systems format the cards. Always format the card within the camera to ensure it works fine with the camera, and never format it in MS Windows.
If the card is unreadable/ undetected in the camera after formatting it in Windows, try reformatting the card using an external formatting tool  (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/) or from the card manufacturer. Good luck!
Note: Most importantly, the card need to be accessible in Windows/ Mac for you to do this.
