Hello Everyone, i recently upgraded from RS2 to RS4 Pro and also purchased the SDR Transmission and a DJI Mic 2. All performed great on my recent shoot with a remote car rig and other setups.

My only complaint is: Why is there no good affordable precise remote control solution for the RS series of gimbals?

- I use a SmallRig remote, which works, but the control stick is so small thats its hard to be precise. I would also love to have hardware controls of speed and smoothing.

- I just tried if there was an update to the game controller solution provided by DJI in the ronin app. But its still not usable while i am in the video transmission part of the app. (There is a workaround, but not usable in a serious production).

- The DJI Transmission with the grips is very expensive, i am forced to use my left thumb, and its still a little thumbstick.

- Bestboy Adam just showed a very cool remote control deck, but very expensive. (And also needs the DJI Transmission)

- The original Ronin 2 remote for the RS series would be a dream.

- I am thinking about buying the "Middle Things APC-R Mini" which lets you use every Joystick to control the gimbal. But then i need a computer in my setup.

Who else has this problem? Does anyone know of a better solution? Will DJI provide something soon?

Hi. Full disclosure: I do the electronics and code for Control Deck, the product Best Boy Adam recently produced a video about. I appreciate it's expensive if you're not already in the DJI Transmission ecosystem.

Long before Control Deck, I made a Visca - Gimbal PTZ interface. It's a lot like Middle Things APC-R, but simpler. No WiFi or Bluetooth, just wired Sony Visca over IP to DJI RS2/3/4. This, with an aftermarket Visca PTZ controller, would give you an affordable, precise wired hardware solution.

Thank you for your reply! That does sound interesting. Never heard of Visca, but the PTZ controllers look good. Only problem would be wired. Ok for a car rig, but I think I will need wireless for other setups.

Ah sure. Well the third option is to buy the Ronin-S Focus Wheel (you need three generation old tech to get a s.bus input, welcome to DJI..) and then use a Futaba s.bus compatible RC aircraft controller and receiver.

It's ugly, but it's how a lot of people - including Best Boy Adam - used to get the shot.

We thought a lot about the target market for Control Deck and while I am sorry it's not more accessible, it needed to serve the needs of the market Ignite Digi already had. I hope you get the opportunity to use it sometime!

Thanks again. I am focusing on this kind of work now and I hope to use the Control Deck soon ;) I will consider the SBus or the APC-R solution.

Its unfortunate that the solution ist already like 90% in the Ronin app with game controller support but not usable in the video transmission view.

For all interested in this topic I just found a NEW WAY to make the game controller support for the Ronin app work with the SDR Transmission and the RS4 Pro. Since the game controller only works while on the game controller page of the Ronin app I connect my iPhone/iPad to the SDR Transmission RX via USB, connect the game controller and stay on the game controller page. For viewing the camera signal I connect another monitor to the RX via HDMI.  Now I have gimbal and camera control via SDR and the Ronin app and monitor the video signal via HDMI on another monitor. Miraculously the game controller also controls the focus/zoom motor via the L2 / R2 pedals on the game controller (which seems to be new).
