DJI NEO Unboxing & First Follow Flight

I love how he calls this a disposable drone.

How do we feel about how this compares with the mini 3 or mini 4? The price makes it very attractive for casual use but I'm not sure if it could be used for more "hardcore" tasks like flying over the ocean. Wind resistance is lower than the mini series

Its not really for people that already have a drone,  this is a new segment to expand their market share against the likes of the hover x1.

I'm currently choosing between a mini 4 and this guy. It definitely seems like we're getting some decent specs for the price of the Neo

Flight time would rule it out for me. Only 8 minutes from the review I saw earlier.

Always depends on how you're using it but Engadget was reporting 15 mins and FlytPath got around 12 mins. DJI is advertising 7 km range but I'd feel crazy to bring it out that far with such low battery. And that's before considering wind/signal strength etc etc.

In my experience I barely get half of the review times.  But for safety I am to land at 25% battery.

In Billy's video the Neo went from 95% to 10% in 14 mins (11:27-11:41) when the drone was forced into auto land. I never want to reach auto land territory personally. Considering him zooming around on his Onewheel GT and flying at that altitude, it's safe to say the Neo would struggle in less favorable scenarios. He did spend some time setting the drone up so maybe a bit longer flight time but more wind or lower temps might cut flight time to like 8 mins for sure lol

I’m on the UK coast so we also have to deal with wind 90% of the year.  

Really nice find DA.  Great review but the short flight time is a big negative.  I'm sticking to the Mini series drones.

I think the point of the Neo is if you need something to take a quick shot, and as discretely as possible. The problem with setting up something like the Mavic, in my experience, is that you often miss the shot.

Me too,    although it's nice to see they did release FW yesterday for RC2/FPV3 remotes. So it would work with the gear from the Avata if I was tempted.

I saw that and I was really surprised that they did the FW update so quickly.  No doubt that is a marketing ploy to help increase sales of the Neo by not having to buy another RC as you already have one that is now compatible.

Ive watched a lot of reviews now and I dont think it's a drone for me.   Dobo was saying that it's OK for the first half of the battery and then is looses a lot of power.    It also sounds horrific.

It seems to be loudest DJI drone to date, even louder than the noisy DJI FPV drone.  One of the things I like about the latest drones in the Mini series is their quietness.  I just wish they'd go to quick change propellers (i.e. screwless like the Air 3).

quick change propellers should be on all the drones now,   I detest the screws and the stress they cause,   and of course youve got people no names mentioned with a huge chunk missing thats put off to replace them because of the screws.

I never received a screwdriver with the Mini 3 Pro but I probably would have tossed it straight in the bin if I would have.  My Wowstick 1F+ kit works just great.

Same,  the trick seems to be to rotate the new screws backwards until they click and then do them up knowing the threads are aligned.

Same method I've been using also.  I've noticed that some of the new screws have more loctite on them than the others.  No doubt a lack of QA on those tiny screws.

Quick question about the QuickShots. What happens if you don't point the drone at yourself when you do these? Do you have to have it always filming yourself? For example I can use the QuickShots to film a static car?

Yours must be packed much differently than the ones I get.  I think I've only had 1 spare screw in any package.  It hasn't been a problem with the extra loctite on them as I'm really careful to not cross-thread them.

Well it's rated for wind up to 18 miles per hour which is fairly reasonable.

They are stingy on the packs here as I've never gotten 5 n a bag.  Usually one but on occasion two.  Maybe DJI has it out for us here in NA.

Thanks for your feedback. DJI Neo is designed to offer users a convenient vlog shooting experience with palm takeoff and landing, and one-tap subject tracking. For this reason, it is more suitable for shooting scenarios at low altitudes which are close to people, such as daily walks and family time.

The max wind speed resistance of DJI Neo is level 4, which basically allows stable shooting and flying in the aforementioned scenarios. DJI Neo supports EIS functions such as HorizonBalancing. Thus the wind won’t affect the final footage. Please record with confidence.
