I am out doing some footage and it seems they have removed the “never” option when it comes to timing on the screen turning off when recording. Is that true?
I consider this a key function when I am recording certain events to watch what I am recording. The 4 has that option of Never.
The 5 has added some full screen options that are active during recording. I don’t mind that option but I see no option to keep the screen on.
Thank You for reaching out. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Unfortunately, Yes the "Never" option in sleep mode was removed from DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.
Thank You for your feedback, we will forward this information to the relevant team for evaluation.
If you have any other questions, kindly let us know. Thank You!

Appreciate the confirmation. I don't understand why this functionality was removed as I used it all the time on just about every recording. Really hope this is restored as it may influence whether I keep the camera.
Appreciate the response and confirmation. . I see DJI confirmed this as well. I don't like the pre-set and hoping they return the functionality like we have on the Action 4. Thanks much.

Great example think as a minimum two further time options of 30 & 60 & a never should be added.

Hi. we added "never" option to keep screen on in 01.01.0510 Firmware
and the firmware is Gray released.
Great information. Thank you for that. I ended up returning the OA5 and I'm using the OA4 for now, but good to know. Will watch reviews to see how it goes. Thanks!

I don’t think that it’s working correctly. My screen dims after 10 seconds and then once more after another 10 until it reaches 30 seconds.
Just tested it, it dims down but never turn black. Recorded for 1 min with Never on.
How i see that DJI made a better way of conserving power was to Dim down the screen never in Six steps and can be wakened.
1 OA4 stays 100% bright, OA5P does not,
2 OA$ is not as bright as the OA%P in 100%, OA5P is too bright 40% brighter
A) to match the OA4 screen brightness is to dim the OA5P to 60% to equal the brightness
B) OA5P a lot easier to see outdoors over the OA4
As people say Burn out can happen, only with a locked image 24-7-365, overheating can be controlled, on a OLED its less heat, not a TFT screen. In the video I demonstrate what Iancraig mentions that his camera dims down
As Johan says it dims down but never shuts down
Never will dim down to 40% lets say 6 steps of 10%, while 3 sec-10 minute will Force a screen saver of a time, that to me will burn an image over time Either way, this is how DJI has made the screen never. see vid for the screen never as we discussed Maybe DJI developers can offer which uses more power the OA4 or OA5P

Hi, we optimized dim issue in firmware 01.02.0330.
and the firmware is Gray released.
you can always click Mimo- Me account- about DJI Mimo- check firmware updates during gray released and get the firmware now.
The one big thing that stopping us from dumping the stupid gopro's is the ability to have a screen on when reordering or selecting witch screen one wants on or off. please bring that in as a option so I can totally move to DJI
I wonder if we swipe down, press cog and chose Single screen preview (screen off when locked) is working correctly that should turn on the front or back single one if asked, can DJI confirm the steps
Fishycomics THANK YOU!!!!! that works!!!!! then I selected never and witch ever screen you tap will stay on dims after a few but at least its on now do we have the option to kill dimming

DImming should have been corrected for FW 01.02.0330 by choosing never, they told us it was corrected.

I'm confused about what the issue was but I stuck with using the OA4 that never dimmed and you can keep the screen on. No issues. I did not realize the "dimming" feature has been turned off on the Action 5 but I haven't really kept up with it as I'm using the 4 model.
both Models dimmed down theycorrected the record dim in fw 01.02.0330, they will not correct the dim when navigating in the camera on both models, if not understanding, we can ask DJI to come forward and explain to us, but they leave this to us members to explain in detail if need again a video I be again more then happy to show the issue and DJI will not correct it

Thanks for the response. I have recorded 15 minute videos with the action four and never noticed any dimming. Maybe it was so subtle I didn’t notice it. I’ve also had the action four on my handlebars, recording my motorcycle rides for the duration of the battery life, and never noticed it dimming. Again, maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention. You know more about this stuff clearly compared to me so I trust that you are correct, but I never encountered any issues with this until I purchased an action five where they had removed the option to keep the screen on all the time, until they fixed it. I did not go back to look at the firmware dates so maybe I never had the old way.

totally hear you. it is not bothersome for me, but others it is, I shoot under ten minute clips, and keeping the camera on for me at a 5 minute mark my screen goes black, how I like it, I do not like when you are setting up and the screen dims every ten seconds and OFF after 60 seconds. words of the staff if a developer or engineer
