Hello!

I use my DJI RC2 (the one with the display built in) for my Mini 4 Pro and was happy to see that I can use the RC2 with my Neo aswell. However, when I switch from Mini 4 Pro to Neo with the RC2, I always get noticed about an 'inconsitent firmware' and need to update to connect the other drone. Happens on the way back from Neo to Mini 4 Pro aswell and all the time, not only once.

What is getting updated and why is this happening with each switch? It is sort of annoying and I don't know if this will work without WiFi connection for the RC2.

I have recorded the screen of the RC2 to show what is happening (I fast forwarded some parts like the update etc. to save you some time). When I hit CANCEL instead of UPDATE, I cannot connect (that's what I did first in the video):

Any else can confirm this with Neo, Mini 4 Pro and the RC2?

Interesting, 'cos both drones use DJI O4

I don't have NEO but I remember the same situation with remote control N 1. There, too, to switch between drones mini 2 and mini 3, a short firmware update procedure was required. It is done by an internal patch and does not require an internet connection.

I have same problem. With RC-N2 and RC-N3. Neo needs v01.03.0100, Mini 4P needs v01.01.0300. Full dowload and install every time. Even after latest MIni 4P firmware. And both needs re-pairing every time. Very annoying.

At least with RC2 it is not taking too long, didn't see a download either. Also it is not needed to repair.
So switching from Neo to Mini 4 Pro with RC-N3 will downgrade the firmware of the N3 to make it work with Mini 4 Pro? Thats even more weird.

I'm gonna check the fIrmwares on the RC2.

That's not a problem. Every time you change drone with the same radio it has to update the firmware... It doesn't actually update the firmware itself, but it does need to load the specific part of the data for that specific drone... It normally takes from 30 seconds to a minute to do it..

Every drone has different settings and/or options available... Does it make sense?

It would make sense, but:
when I use the Goggles 3 with Motion Controller 3, I can switch between Avata 2 and Neo without any firmware update notice. Didn't try the Mini 4 Pro yet with Goggles and MC3.

Also, DJI Fly recognizes the drone and its settings/options without having to update anything when using DJI Fly with different drones. So I still don't understand why this has to happen.

Can't see any firmware differences on the RC2 - always 02.07.0000 not matter if Neo or Mini 4 Pro.
Neo is on 01.00.0200 (newest) and Mini 4 Pro on 01.00.0700 (newest).

I said loading not updating...

They are two different things... All my radios do load the new drone parameters when I switch between drones...

The radio does recognise the different drones, but it still needs to load the parameters for it...

Simple as that...

DJI should clarify this. Talking about "inconsistent firmware" and "Update" doesn't help with that. Also, Goggles 3 can switch without that, a switch takes few seconds and needs no confirming. And that works between Avata 2 <-> Neo <-> Mini 4 Pro.

Is the goggles 3 a drone? NO... Does the goggle 3 controls the drone? NO!!

So let's try to compare apples for apples... This reload required when you switch drones has ALWAYS been like that.. (or at least for the past three years) It is old news... And definitely either not a bug or a problem, for most customers!

I think new customers/users should spend a bit more time getting acquainted with the hardware and software and spend much less time complaining about non existent issues like this one! Perhaps you need a bit more time to get used to read Chinglish... Either way, it is not a real issue...

Happy flying...

Is the RC2 a drone or whats your point?
When using the Goggles, I can switch between Avata 2, Neo and Mini 4 Pro with one click and few seconds. No box showing up that I need to confirm or cancel.

That's my point. I don't talk about a problem, I talk about user experience.

BTW, I joined the drone game since Mavic 1 and Spark...

My point being, that the goggles don't control the drone but the radio does and has too!

Then again, if I need to explain to you the difference between a radio controller and a video receiver device, perhaps we are having bigger problems here...

I don't think I can help you more than this....

"BTW, I joined the drone game since Mavic 1 and Spark..."

And you still haven't learned that when you switch drone with the same radio you need to reload the correct parameters???

It is not just DJI... Every single RC radio ever sold that has more than one model slot, has to perform this action for the new model to be loaded...

Ok think about the following: if I switch drones with Goggles 3 and FPV 3 or Motion 3 - why does this work seamless, no matter if I use FPV3 or MC3 and switch between 3 different drones? No box showing up to confirm updates. Or what is the radio in this case? Enlighten me :-)

I'm going to try for the last time!

Do you understand the difference between a stand alone radio controller and a video receiver unit?

I think you are getting stuck on this point...

One device has to control another device and therefore need the correct parameters like the setting in the radio... When you switch drones these setting are different for the other drone so it need to reload those settings...

When you connect the goggle to another device they only receive a signal. They still use the same parameters, so there is no need to change anything or to load anything...

Can you see the difference? One is a transmitter receiver and controller. the goggles are not!

That's all... It is actually quite simple... Every radio controller you buy will always have to perform this action when you switch model (in this case a drone)...

This does apply to plane, helicopter and cars RC controller, not just to the DJI radios...

Absolutely they should also see about firmware that supports both drones, it's a 3 minute process, that requires my phone to have a sim card in it (I usually fly with a phone that only has a wifi connection). So there's a lot of stuffing around to switch between drones. This borders on false advertising tbh. Since I am now looking at buying another controller just so I don't have this rigmarole - and it's now going to be a lot more expensive, like a few hundred dollars, than if I just bought the combo set. Not happy.

Is there actually an easy way to switch from the MINI 4 Pro to the Neo and back?
So far I always have to switch off one drone and wait until the connection to the RC2 is lost and then reconnect.
Allways changing the firmware is really not a good solution

Having same problem but worse since the RC N2 requires internet connection every time to switch between drones, so i can't do it when i'm in the mountain, please dji i need a solution
