I lost the little adapter to connect my controller to my laptop via USB-C and it will not connect otherwise (I have tried multiple times). It seems I need to get another adapter, but my real question is do I need the DJI OEM adapter or will any USB-A to USB-C adapter work?
Thanks in advance!

I use a random (no brand) USB-A (computer side) to USB Bmicro (RC side) cable and it works fine to connect it with DJI Assistant.
From USB-A (RC side) to USB-C (Computer side) it doesn't work for me. Maybe my cable is damaged.

Well darn, I need the one that you said doesn't work. I have a USB-C on my laptop. I guess I'll give the 3rd party a shot.

I just tried with a USB A - USB C cable that works with other device. No trace of the RC in the device manager, DJI Assistant does not see anything.

The problem can also come from the RC, I have already sent it once for repair for a faulty USB port, I do not remember which one, A or Bmicro.

I also just realized (after ordering a female micro USB to male USB-C) that it won't help my situation because then I'd need a dual-sided micro USB cable to connect the controller. fml.

Well not only did I find one fix, I think I found the problem with my connection. It's most definitely hardware. :|

I think I should be able to use the cable I use to connect my controller to my phone (also USB-C). The problem is the hardware issue as pictured. I went out to try a night run and this popped out leaving the metal USB-C part in my phone port. No wonder I was getting connection issues...
