Does any one know the Base/Native ISO of the sensor in the Action 5 pro? DJI seem reluctant to publish this info....

Hi there, thank you for reaching out. Kindly take note that when the camera is shooting 4K images at 60fps or below, the ISO is 570; when shooting 8K images at 100fps or above, the ISO is 6400.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

The DJI Osmo Action 5 has a max resolution of 4K.... So when you say "8K images at 100fps or above, the ISO is 6400"... How can this be correct??
Was this a typo and you meant to write..... 4K images at 100fps or above, the ISO is 6400.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond and would really appreciate getting the accurate information regarding this.

Hi there. Thank you for your feedback.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro can shoot 8K photos, but not 8K videos. Most display devices and social media platforms support video playback in up to 4K resolution. Even if you shoot videos in 8K resolution, these devices and platforms cannot display the additional details. Moreover, larger pixel sizes in videos generally result in higher dynamic range and better low-light performance. Osmo Action 5 Pro utilizes a 4-in-1 pixel binning technology to produce large pixels (2.4 μm), significantly enhancing low-light performance and dynamic range. 8K videos are not ideal for action cameras with relatively small sensors, as they can lead to excessive noise, significant degradation in low-light performance, and overexposure in highlights.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thanks for your great support and have a wonderful day.

Hi Hi,

Thankyou for your comprehensive answer. Much appreciated.

I am trying to find what is the Native/Base ISO for the Osmo Action 5 in each of its VIDEO settings.

Can you confirm if is this correct:

4K Video up to 60FPS = 570 ISO
SLO Motion Video Setting = 6400 ISO
Super Night Video setting = 6400 ISO

I have also purchased an Osmo Pocket 3 and will post the same question in another thread for that particular camera.

You might be right, but I think it depends on the user and the situation. Even though 8K is inconvenient in many situations, 5.3K is more useful and post-process friendly if the release platform is 4K or zoomed in to get a macro shot sometimes.

That pixel binning should only work if the recording resolution is a multiple of 4 of the raw sensor resolution. So, the sensor being 8K 4:3 (7296×5472), you can incorporate that 4-in-1 pixel binning to 4K (4:3) (3840×2880), correct?

Therefore, the 16:9 resolutions and 2.7K (4:3 or 16:9) must use a more traditional down-sampling method, discarding the benefits of pixel binning, since they are not a clean factor of that 8K raw sensor resolution.

Do you therefore imply that 4K (4:3) produces the most accurate, least noisy image of all the options on camera? Why would SuperNight be 16:9 then? Or is it using pixel binning to 4:3 and then doing additional "AI" de-noising (crayon effect) and further down-sampling to 16:9? Seems strange.

So what exactly is the native iso of the Action 5? I presumed that it is 100.

Hi Oranjoose, thanks for reaching out.

We appreciate your comprehensive feedbacks and research on shooting parameters. Our relevant team also attaches great importance to the voice of customers. Both 4:3 and 16:9 use 4-in-1 pixel, but the entire CMOS will not be used in 16:9, and there will be cropping above and below.

Hope we can solve your confusion. If you have other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact us anytime. Thanks for your support and kind understanding.

The Action 5 can’t shoot 8K images at 100fps. What you have repeated from the  previous admin reply must be incorrect, surely?
