Helpful video. I'm a bit of a newbie and don't be surprised by naive questions.
I want to write what I want to use the filter for, and ask you to help me match it to my tasks.
So, I want to make a “road trips to beautiful places” blog. The camera will be installed in a waterproof box outside the car. So I need a screw filter that will fit in the box.
The mist filter screws on in place of the normal cover.
As far as nd filters go, you use them to slow the shutter to enable motion blur. Be very careful which value you use because going too slow causes the stabilisation to not work properly.
I set up in manual so that the shutter is around 1/200 and then go auto and let the camera choose in those situations where you’re not sure how the light might change as you move. That works well with the Action 4 but unfortunately, the Action 5 always makes a bee line for fast shutter so you have to really watch what it’s doing which is a pain.
I use K@F Concept ND filters. They work really well. Again, they screw on so you can’t use a diffuser with them. There is no one value that works for everything. I have a set of 4 filters to choose from and you just have to test when you’re there!
If you are taking mostly stable, still type shots, don’t worry about the shutter so much. If you are running around, the nd can ruin your footage because the stabilisation stops working properly. Using an ND needs a lot more care or you can end up with footage that you can't use. |
