Hi there, We understand your concern.
When DJI first introduced the GEO system in 2013, consumer drones were still relatively novel technologies and there were limited drone flight rules or regulations in place at the time. DJI’s geofencing system was launched as a built-in safety feature to help prevent DJI drone operators from unknowingly flying inside restricted airspace (such as government buildings, airports, or prisons).
Global regulations and user awareness have since advanced significantly, with an emphasis on geo-awareness and Remote ID solutions. National aviation authorities, including the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) in the European Union, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the United Kingdom, and the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) in the United States, have defined their UAS geographical zones and enforce drone regulations.
This GEO update has already taken effect in the U.K. and several EU member countries. The transition began in January 2024, starting with European countries that have implemented geographical maps compliant with existing technical standards: Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, France, Lithuania, Switzerland, and the UK.
