Hello all,

I have had a rather lengthy hiatus of use with my Mini 2 and have just rekindled my interest with the unit.
Upon launching the dji fly app I'm informed there are firmware updates. I seem to recall seeing some posts here about firmware issues (to wit, posters had mentioned with the upgraded firmware they saw issues with flying distances and heights etc). I'm unsure if those posts were old and referred to firmware versions that have since been fixed however, I wonder if anyone would care to comment. With firmware (on computers at least), one sometimes is best to adopt a policy of "it it ain't broke ..."

I haven’t updated my firmware in à long time, just because of what you said (brings more new bugs than it resolved).
But I’m also curious about the NFZ being dropped in USA,  does that apply to Canada also?

Ain't broke, don't fix it, is good. but as discussion (only-it's for you to fact-check)

The DJI NFZ needs drone connected to the controller and DJIFly app but isn't a firmware update to the drone itself as far as I'm aware. It's separate from "firmware updates". You should be able to try it and see if it's unlocked in Canada too. (I have, but don't fly in NFZ places so i can't tell if it has or hasn't yet)

Depending on your last firmware update, the RC-N1 firmware will want an update in case you want to fly other compatible drones..Example: the Mini 3 is compatible but much newer drones are NOT so I'm pretty sure an RC-N1  will only update to include what  it is compatible with..... you can check the dates of these firmware updates somewhere but I can't offhand remember where ! That said, .My RC-N1 is updated to "the max" without issue to my Mini 2 unless i's involved with ONE issue I will mention below.

DJI Fly is an entirely different beast- it just gets BIGGER for every  drone added. It won't do much for a Mini2 ...I figure 1.4.8 or so, which  is where I stopped until i got a Mini 3....
The ONE issue that I have noticed through updates in the Mini 2 especially are the advanced stick settings....no way they are what they were in earlier versions of DJI Fly..no way I can do THIS anymore...without reverting to DJIFly 1.4.8 or so.

Thanks Snoopy and Nazgull,
And Nazgull that "How to..." video looks to include some very useful information. I am more interested in smooth flying/video than speed racing so I will try out your suggested settings. Thanks again.

Yes, I think it's very cool, but while I could do it on the Mini 2 before, no way I can do it on the mini 3...settings just don't go low enough anymore.  But, I needed a newer DJIFly  to run the M3 so...
A solution would be to keep a separate phone that runs the older version for the Mini 2....? (still assuming it wasn't the controller update at fault.)

If you aren't getting a newer drone, stay with what you have.

Be aware that you can uninstall DJI Fly and install a lower version but firmware updates are much harder to reverse.

Mea culpa I think nazgull, I posted a new thread asking if anyone could clarify why the settings in the video don't exactly correspond to the latest controller firmware. The various settings resemble in some places to those described in the video but there must have been some terminology changes that confuses me at least

That's just it, GT. i  seem to have noticed a change, but i wasn't sure where it originated -software or firmware?-and never found it mentioned online either . I DID get it all going as per the video with my mini 2 and it was pretty cool, so I think the older software did the trick but I can't really be sure if I can still get it going these days.

... I  mostly fly my Mini 3 these days. It won't do it-it needs a newer DJIFly AND a controller update- and it got lost- practised stick control will have to do.

But (in my experience but at yer own risk) regresssing to older [DJIFly 1.4. whatever]is worth a try if you think you've lost something in the DJIFly versions - several methods:
uninstall , then install older, then login again. You should have a blank slate, with no flights recorded.
option to try: to MAYBE run two versions and it MIGHT "keep everything": Create a new user or a work profile on your device and install an alternate version there. fingers crossed-(but-it's a handy phone feature to try anyways..with uses beyond the present discussion)

Thanks for that 'gull, I intend flying again shortly and will see how the guesses I made with the new firmware based on your video link goes. I'll report if any significant issues.

Hi Natalia,
I am impressed by the video link (MattW is apparently the author) which describes how one can achieve cinematic like results by using a simple enough (or so it seems as I've not yet tried it) technique of manipulating the left and right joystick controllers. Please review the aforementioned link for more information. The basic takewaway at this point in time is that if I had not updated my controller software, I would have been able to faithfully follow Matt's directions in so far as the various recommended (smoothing) settings. With the latest update, any drilling down to those settings is I'm afraid rather buried and not giving assurance that one has indeed selected the correct (according to Matt) settings. What was the reason for changing the Advance Settings in the latest update? can a future update bring them back?

The advanced gimbal settings have been integrated into the "Gain & Expo Tuning" option, please refer to the attached images for more information.

In DJI Fly v1.1.6, the “Advanced Gimbal Settings” have been updated. To access them, navigate to "Control" and then select "Gimbal Advanced Settings." Here, you can adjust various gimbal parameters for the DJI Mini 2 across different modes (Normal, Tripod, and Sport), including pitch speed, pitch smoothness, yaw speed, and yaw smoothness.

Thanks Natalia, next time I'm using the drone I will review what you've stated. However, your screenshot is somewhat confusing where the settings range from N/A to N/A. I'm not sure what you mean by that.

You may try to Drag the pointer from N/A to change the value and then it will change.
Sure, looking forward to it.

@GT2022. Be aware the software interface has changed in DJI Fly since that video was made.  Terminology too.  Try a search for "DJI drone stick settings" (or a variation and you'll probably find it about 3 years ago. That's a LONG time in DJI years.

Well Natalia, snoopy and nazgull, I've tweaked the settings according to Natalia's reference of where I could do that as above. Some of the terminology is a little different to the Youtuber's suggestions, however, I believe I have them more or less the same as his. When I do a flight I will report back and inform just how this methodology works out. Thanks again everyone.

Now that you know where the adjustments are, spend a few batteries experimenting. Find what fits YOUR needs.

I do intend to do just that Mobile...
Weather and other priorities though are currently intervening
I must say though, MattW's smooth flight scenarios very much appeal to me and if I can emulate those in my upcoming flghts I will be a happy flyer
