It was founded in 1297 by Jaime II el Justo. From the beginning it was one of the most important monasteries of the Cistercian order. All Valldigna was owned by this monastic community by royal order. The monastery was inhabited by monks until 1835, when a popular revolt in the Valldigna after the confiscation of Mendizábal forced the monks to leave the monastery. Most of their assets were destroyed.[size=40.8106px]

Monasterio de Simat de la Valldigna Fue fundado el 1297 por Jaime II el Justo. Desde un principio, uno de los monasterios más importantes de la orden del Císter. Toda la valldigna era propiedad de esta comunidad monacal por orden real. El monasterio fue habitado por los monjes hasta el 1835, en que una revuelta popular en la Valldigna después de la desamortización de Mendizábal obligó a los monjes a abandonar el monasterio. La mayor parte de sus bienes fueron destruidos.
