Have you heard of Oostvaardersplassen? It is a nature reserve, but it is also a far-reaching experiment. Biologists worldwide are increasingly talking about using large herbivores to re-create prehistoric, and sometimes even prehuman, ecosystems. Interesting concept. The recreated it on reclaimed land that was going to be an industrial park (but they never raised enough money).
Yeah they one time tried that in kauai ! But it failed a few times. I think they made a few documentaries there jurassic park 1 till 4!, lol.
Yes its very sad this failed project oostvaardersplassen. Drone flying is not allowed there , but the government killing about 2000 deer and horses due to overpopulating and animals cannot take care of themselves in the winter. And its not allowd to feed them as wild nature reserve. A lot of fuss about it here

Aloha drony,
Aww, bummer! There has been some success in other areas of Europe and the World. The overpopulation was definitely not expected for deer. In the Netherlands, they had never had a large enough area to roam as an ideal environment. They were always solitary or small gangs.
Is the drone ban just for the "killing season" or is it year round? Even over here (well the mainland US anyway), the horses that the Conquistadors released (or escaped), mustangs, are considered an excessive population and there is constant bickering about how to deal with those populations.
Those large herds do have a good effect on the environment though. This TED presentation explains a planning process that uses large herds to mimic Nature and stop desertification;
Really quite fascinating and only 22 munites.
Sorry to hear the experiment at Oostvaardersplassen failed so miserably. I was hoping to hear differently but then the Netherlands does not really have a problem with desertification. Oh, well.
