Same goes for Japan. Although "registration" is not required here, the term “UA/Drone” means any airplane, rotorcraft, glider or airship which cannot accommodate any person on board and can be remotely or automatically piloted (Excluding those lighter than 200g. The weight of a UA/Drone includes that of its battery.).
My understanding is that in Japan, there is currently no legal requirement to register drones with the government. Regulation is coming, possibly in 2020, which will require drones to be registered for identification in case of a crash resulting in some type damage, injury, or intentional action. So for now, any drone can be flown within reason, and whether its the 249g or the 199g it should be authorized for flight. I know that DJI put a strange error message saying the heavier drone is illegal to fly in Japan due to the weight. That is not true. If it is illegal, its illegal for another reason. |
