The castle (outside shots only) was built from 1123. From 1500 and after a devastating fire in 1546 the castle was rebuilt and in 1705 again in the baroque style. From 1991 it was left to rot until renovation started 2004. The garden is refreshingly wild. Below the castle on the hill is St. Bartholomäus church (built from 1186 in the romanesque style).
The "grandfather rock" is part of the Devil's Wall (see other video) - it was a bit windy for the Cinelog, my skills and the number of people. Michaelstein monastery is a former cistercian house founded in the 1130s.
The Regenstein fortress is a surprisingly extensive hill top fort first mentioned 1162 and now unfortunately part of a nature reserve (no-fly zone). But the nearby mill isn't. It was built in the second half of the 12th century and used up until 1450, the water being channeled from 2 km off.
The Altenburg ("old castle") or Heimburg castle dates from around 1070 but nothing really remains. Still a nice hill top.
Volkmarskeller is the "cellar" or rather cell of Volkmar who might have lived here around 950. In the 12th century a church was built around the cave - nothing left of that.
Finally a cruise around hay bales and a gathering of butterflies.
