At a maximum Ascent speed of 6 m/s it would have taken them 9.45 minutes to reach their 3.4km altitude....certainly doable...
Curious if going up/down in ATTI would be quicker, that said, to reduce the times to the degree we are talking about would not be fathomable...Only way would be to have had a "BIG" or Dual Battery, not impossible but improbable and without seeing the goods, it is no record in my books!

It is Lots of Fun....its awesome Video, and the possibility of accidentally interfering with a maned or passenger aircraft is so unlikely I Don't Think its something to worry about.
You could always attach a weather balloon to your drone. Let it go. When it gets to 11,000 feet let go of the balloon start the motor, you could fly for a few minutes and then CSC free fall until you are at around 600 feet or so and start the motors again.
Not totally sure but calculating the time to go up and to come down = a crash. That's 2.08 miles up and at that altitude and wind current battery goes fast. Then the slow decent even in atti mode. Highly unlikely. Good for show though.

Not to dispute your post that flying over 400' can be useless for photo or video or dangerous, but implying that a one of our drones could bring down an airliner?
