I'm not trying to be rude, but first of all, I still have line of sight.  Secondly, I have flown on purpose watching just the screen, and it shows full signal, all bars, perfect video feed, spot on gps, and then it just shows 'disconnected' and a red light pops on my RC.  I've tested and educated myself a lot on these things.  This very issue never happened before the firmware update.  Not once.  If I flew it to far, it would show on the screen, Disconnected, returning to home.  Never once failed me.  

So, with all that said, today, I had my kid keep an eye on my drone up in the air, and I stared at the device that had video.  It was clipping right along, and all the sudden 'disconnected' and the red light popped up on my RC.  So I moved the drone back and forth in the air, and it was still responding.  Light was still red on the RC, and that typically means there's no connection to the drone right?  I flip the fail safe RTH switch on the RC, and the drone never returned on its own.  I again tested, shut the RC off, and it finally returned.  

First of all, I never update.
Secondly, there is no doubt you have developed a problem since you updated. I'm not questioning that.
You should really open a ticket with support since no body on this forum will be able to assist.
That being said, good luck and I hope you find the solution you can accept..

That's the confusing part.  I tested the s2 switch when it was within 600 feet, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do.  No problem.  Have video and logs to show it.  When it was at around 1500 feet, and it 'disconnected' I still had full control, but the s2 did not bring her home.  It seems the only things that work on the RC is the sticks, the gimbal control, and the power switch.  I'm about to downgrade the firmware back to where it was working properly, and give dji a call.  I was hoping there was a sub setting I was missing that someone mighta known about.  I even relinked the rc today too in a last ditch effort of troubleshooting.  I'm just super confused at how it used to say 'rc signal lost, returning to home', and now it's just 'disconnected'.  Period.  lol.  Thanks for thinking about the s2 though.  I didn't think about that till this morning.

I am very new to this and have yet to fly my P3S. I bought a refurbished unit before Xmas and received it just before the new year. Trying to set it up today and give it a try. I have always heard great things about these drones so I am very surprised at my experience so far today. App does not seem to work at all on my samsung S5. Seems to work mostly on my daughters iphone. When booted up it said to do a firmware update so we did. Update failed at 65% complete now drone just beeps loudly when turned on so a rollback seems unlikely.  Not sure how to get back to a place to retry update.

Updated this afternoon, no issues. I can even pick up satellites (6-8) in my upstairs spare room now, I was unable to even get 1 sat previously. Re Calibrated IMU and will do compass when I get out to fly (bloody rain).

        How To Perform A Firmware Upgrade

For others here are the steps to insure you get a good firmware update to your P3S.
1. insure all other apps are closed on your mobile phone.
2. Make sure you have both the controller and the intelligent battery charged,
3. Plug in your intelligent battery into your Phantom 3 Standard (don't turn on yet).
4. Install the DJI Go app on your mobile device.
5. Turn on your controller and turn your controller upside down.  You will see a small tag that shows you the controllers wireless SSID  and password.
6. Go to your wireless setting on your phone and select the Phantom 3 (per step 5).
7. Start up the DJI Go app.
8. Plug in and turn on (tap tap hold) your PS3 intelligent battery.
9. Wait for the firmware update notice on the DJI Go app.  If you do not have cell, it will ask to switch back to your home wireless Internet for download. [Once done, connect WiFi back to DJI]
10. After the download, it will ask if you want to start the firmware update. Do this and just walk away.

You will hear beeping, hiss sounds, and other odd stuff but do not touch anything.
This can take 30 minutes or so.

If the firmware update fails, simply exit the DJI Go app, turn off the PS3 and turn it back on, then start up the DJI Go app again.

Not liking the new update at all. Lost 1000ft of distance an the screen seems to need me to stop so it can catch up...wish I new how to roll it back.

Have you tried to fly it in different ope locations?
Please adjust the antenna during the flight to optimal range.

Please delete the DJI GO APP, re-install it, then connect the iPhone to remote, turn on aircraft, upgrade it again. You must make sure the internet is great and do not exist the APP during upgrading!

You need connect the network internet then check again, there will be a notice on APP screen.

My phantom 3 standard also lags on the video ...I was only a few feet away and never done that before.. Also I was low on GPS satellites .. Always get between 12/15  I couldnt get even 11

What mobile device you're using?
Please try another one in DJI recommended list and check the performance again.

I updated last night, to fly today.  Everything went smoothly, and got fantastic distance. The only issue I'm now having is when I fly it far out, I lose rc connection (iPhone says no signal, rc signal light is red, but I can still control the drone with the sticks.  Also, even though it says signal loss, it will NOT RTH.  I got nervous as I looked away for a half a second and lost sight of the drone. I had to ultimately turn the rc off, and pray.  About 3 minutes later, it finally was close enough for me to see it, and I was able to reconnect to it.

Any reason this issue is happening?  I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the app, retested it, and same thing every time. Red light throws me off big time as I still have control of the drone.

Would you please provide me a screenshot of FPV when it happens?
Please check the firmware version on "About" page and you can also try to re-link AC and RC.

I update my P3P last weekend, I'm running an iPad Mini2 with latest IOS, the DJI Go App v 3.1.2, aircraft 1.10.90 and remote controler version 1.8.0.  A few minutes into first (only) flight after upgrade the iPad console said weak GPS signal, advised me to exit GPS mode, the aircraft then proceeded to fly on it's own due north for about 500 feet before I was able to regain control and land it.  It had also reported idle motor or loose propeller, I had just put the props on and they were tight.  I haven't flown since it took off on it's own, waiting to hear what DJI has to say.

How about the environment for flight? The GPS signal is great and no interference around?
What's the distance it flew when you noticed the error?

I experienced problems updating the firmware of the drone and had to leave it beeping for 15 minutes, after that it was all good.

Environment: roughly 50 degrees F, wind less than 5 miles per hour, sun shining.  There were two errors, first was idle motor or loose or missing propeller, I'd just put propellers on so I knew they were secure.  The other error was weak GPS signal.  I had flown 335.8 feet, flight time was 2 minutes 10 seconds when the weak GPS signal message appeared (showing 17 satellites at top of screen) then it took off on it's own due North.  At 2 minutes 27 seconds it said compass error exit P-GPS mode.  I regained control and had it land after that.

I updated my firmware this morning and now the video is choppy.  Video will freeze for a bit then jerk forward.  Before the firmware update, video was smooth.  Is this a known problem with this firmware update?  Is there anything I can do to again have smooth video?  I'll be happy to upload an example.

I am having the exact same issue after upgrading to the latest firmware.

The thing is it worked before the update and was solid.. Its a lg g4
And never ever had problems with it then after the update it started to happen.
Said today even loosing connection flashing at about half the distant I got before.

Update went perfectly for drone, RC & first battery. However, upon inserting my spare battery I got no update notification or any indication that the second battery was getting its update. Is there a way to force the update for this battery or check if any update has happened to it?

Hi, I have only had my P3S since Christmas. The only issues were it reported "Unknown Version", It would not tell me there were updates available even though once it did say version 1.2.40.
It could not advise the flight control serial number.
Once I got past beginner mode it would not go very far without having connection issues so as long as I stayed close I could still fly.

Ya, the app thinks everything is cool.  Mine is locked in the loud scream mode & won't take a downgrade or update through the sd card.

What happens if the update fails halfway through. Is the old firmware still installed and safe to fly with?  Tried twice tonight to update and one failed at 20% and second at 68%.

Even tho I have RC loss signal issues with 1.7.9 at about 140 metres away at 80 metres height, I am not going to update after reading all these horror stories. At least not until DJI get this updating process mended, so it looks like I will forever be on 1.7.9 but wish I could go back to 1.5.8 !!!

So my p3s arrived today.  Its rainy and windy here so I flew about 2 minutes and decided what the heck lets update.  

The update got to about 51% and according to the screen failed (iPhone 6 OS 10.2). The drone was beeping loudly.  I shut it all down, force closed the app and started figuring my next move.  Some googling revealed that even though the app said failed, the drone was still updating and to let it beep for 15-20 minutes.  I started up the RC, connected the iphone, and started the drone it beeeeeped a lot and continuously.  BUT, after a hot minute it was connected (still beeping) and the app notified me I had an update to apply.  I told it to go ahead.  And 20 minutes later I got an update complete message.  

I encourage everyone having issues applying the update to give it time. I think if I wouldn't have panicked when the app told me the update failed and had just let it beep it would have worked the first time.  The weather is still ugly here, but hopefully I'll get some air time tomorrow.

In that case, would you please export the flight records, then send an e-mail to support.us@dji.com with your APP account (e-mail address) and the exact time it happened, our engineers will help analyze the data.

What's the led light on gimbal camera? it should be solid green if upgrading is successfully.
