Hello everyone,
I'm reaching out to seek advice on the maintenance of my DJI Mini 4 Pro drone, specifically regarding its propellers. I understand that keeping the propellers in good condition is crucial for safe and efficient flight, but I'm a bit uncertain about the exact criteria for replacing them.
Could anyone provide guidance on the following:
  • Minor Scratches: Are small, superficial scratches on the propellers something to be concerned about, or can they be ignored as long as they don't affect flight performance?
  • Significant Damage: What kind of visible damage (e.g., deep scratches, chips, or bends) on the propellers would warrant immediate replacement to ensure safety and optimal performance?
  • General Rule of Thumb: Is there a general guideline or threshold for deciding when to replace the propellers, even if there's no immediate, noticeable impact on flight?

I appreciate any insights or personal experiences you could share. Ensuring the longevity and safety of my drone is a priority, and I want to make sure I'm taking the right precautions.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

What costs a set of propellers in relation to value of you drone ?
Normal use (handling on the ground, store in a bag etc)  and normal executed flights will not damage blades, so if you find minor damage like scratches or worse like chips, just replace by complete new set.

cheers

1. Minor scratches are nothing to worry about.
2. The drone can fly with chips, bends, or cracks. For example, after a collision with a bird or trees, the drone returns safely with cracks and chipped propellers. BUT this requires immediate replacement because... all flight characteristics deteriorate and this is an excessive load on the engines.
3. DJI encourages you to replace propellers with even minor damage, and rightly so!

I can only share my personal experience although I agree with Serg. Once I got an error saying that the propellers with rotating too fast without giving a reason. I got that error a couple times and was contemplating replacing them but it eventually went away and I had no further issue.

Hi, caromuffa. Thank you for reaching out. There's no fixed time to replace the propellers. Usually, we only need to judge whether the propellers need to be replaced by the appearance of the propellers or the APP prompts. If there are minor scratches, there is no need to replace the propellers. Replacement is only required when there is obvious damage like cracked, misshapen or corroded. In addition, it is recommended to always pay attention to the APP prompts. If the APP does not have any error prompts, feel free to use it, and no need to change propellers.
