Look at the same place in HLG,
DJI made Tone mapped NORMAL and DLOG-M profiles but the camera is capable.
HLG looks very good ( view with an HDR capable monitor or use iphone or latest Android )

Anyway they tweaked the NORMAL profile ( Neutral-Vivid while DLOG-M + LUT is what the OLD NORMAL 10 bit was before )
Now Normal 10bit looks ok to me they fixed the red tint... we hope now they fix the DLOG-M and the LUT

I can use Normal/Neutral i guess.

After 2 months of waiting for fixes, they literally addressed none of the main concerns
But I hear they're all in on the collaborations with camera reviewers on YouTube
It's easier to sponsor good reviews on YouTube than deliver an actual good product

So has anyone got good results as well bad results is it going to be worth the upgrade, all companies do say its an improvement , but what if its not? then you're stuck waiting 3 months for new firmware that moves forward, never fixing the issue of HDR

Holy hell, the exposure floating on your video is so bad

DJI really couldn't care less about the product

It was morning + cloudy weather. Ideal conditions for the vignette to appear. This video is a reminder to G that we are waiting for the D-LOG M revision

I've downloaded the "update" but since it is very dark and gray weather here i did not test the camera like i wanted.

What i could see in few test is that there is very small difference.

So after almost 2 months of waiting, reporting, begging they just added vivid profile that is not supported in 100 FPS so now you have even more divided and not even color/picture processing.

Basically no fix for :
2 sharpens and noise reduction
no option to remove HDR look
Log still looks bad
no solution for trumpet flares
no solution for vignetting
no solution for live stream problems
no solution for long power up when the camera is turned off longer time or when you change the battery

In 2 months they did not fix anything and lied here on the forum numerus times that they will address the HDR.
At this point i don't care or will wait anymore, because it is obvious that they don't care.

I mean..all they could do is implement Action 4 processing and colors...but no...they have to justify "more" dynamic range.

I will try to return my action 5 pro but i doubt they will take it back since the return period is finished. I am so happy that i did not sell my gopro 12.

If i can't return it back i am selling my right away. What a joke and waste of time.

Lets see if anyone understands what Grayware in the profile/About notices
1. Added tone setting options in Video Mode:

not customes
not phot
not slow motion
not timelapse/hyperlase
not subject tracking

Video Mode noted, Natural and Vivid with Vivid selected, it achieves sharper contrast and a more layered visual perception.

Only when in Video mode and choosing VIVID, it enables sharper contrast

this is only available in resolutions of 1080P, 2.7K, 4:3AR and 16:9, also 4K AR 16:9 no higher FPS of 60fps max, in color normal

8-bit color not noted
10-bit color not noted

If I read this right where did this say it will  from above address other concerns>

sorry not interested in other smartphones  or under water experience with  auto record, as they are helpful

Yeah, the HDR mode is the only actually good one, but most people don't know how to properly handle that footage. It gets very confusing very fast. The fact that D Log M (the supposedly "professional" choice) was not updated with the OA5, and the LUT is just completely wrong is just baffling.

There are some differences between the tones, but not massive...

I haven't tested it but it doesn't look like a lot have changed. The camera seems to keep exposing for shadows so they either don't want to lose the "13.5 stops" of DR or the sensor is always on HDR mode.

Thos is my first DJI product ( and probably the last ) so i don't know which SoC they used on their previous cams, but if they are new to this Qualcomm QCS8550 SoC , it might explain why they are not up to the task ( fixing bigs, tweaking the fw, etc ).

From an in-house chip to this one there's a big learning curve and many things could be completely different when it comes to how this SoC deals with camera sensors .

Unfortunately everything it's closed source so (btw DJI , at least the kernel is covered by GPL, but i see no source of it ) hard to know exactly how their fw works ( beside DJI trying to encrypt and ofguscate every bit ) .

Here is a short clip recorded with Vivid under harsh sun. Greens are still off, cloud still lacks volume and the halos are still present around objects with the sky as background. I think the halos are caused because of the sharpness level causing ringing. IMO reducing sharpness for the Normal color profile will greatly improve the image quality even with the HDR look, and it shouldn't be very difficult because the Dlog-m already uses less sharpness.

But you can get motion blur effect and more cinematic picture if you play with NDPL filter and Shutter speed.Looks like over exposured, so EV -0.3 could be better

They’re not listening or even bothered.

Mimo was such a joy, yet again. Took me over half an hour with failed downloads, reinstalling Mimo before it would work.

They were listening when they launched the Action 3 failure. Then they stopped listening. I really don't understand DJI. I know me and others have been begging for the ability to turn Pre-Rec ON in MIMO and they have yet to do that. YEARS of begging. Something is wrong with DJI.

I can see in VIVID the image is a little 'streched' , only my impression?

I don't normally use HDR modes, but to my eye, the HDR image converted to Rec.709 seems to look the most natural.

Feels like DJI did not make this camera, but supporting a group that did, and their project funds ran out.

I don't like HLG converted in REC709, but i like it in BT2020 and i use it also on my Mavic 3 Classic.
But for an action Cam i would like to use the REC709 so i will end up using NORMAL / Neutral or DLOG-M even if i think it's not optimized because i see a RED tint. Hope DJI will fix all the issues.

Ok, ive updated the a5p.
Mimo APP wouldnt download the file because the updates were not allowed on mobile networks, and once the camera is connected to the APP, WiFi gets owned by it =D

The main difference I noticed was the different noise levels on these profiles. I don't see much difference in the image.

yep, indeed its a very underwelming update, as lancraig said before.
I do hope dji is still working on improving this camera, because its really a half baked product.
For me its a lesson to never buy a camera expecting that bugs will be fixed with updates.
I should have returned mine while I could, and i was aware of the problems at the time, but I didnt, in hopes it would be fixed, at least to the image quality standards of the Action 4 that I had and loved.
Now I have to eat the loss and sell it or keep it and be regreting having it =D

Did DJI pull this firmware? My device is on older firmware and when I hit check firmware it says none available. Also DJI Mimo not prompting me for an update wither???

Pulled , I no longer have it as saved on my mimo, like said it was Official and mostly likely Betaware, peopled not like hearing words of grayware,

What do you mean, Dji actually pulled the firmware version from the mimo app, is it no longer available for download?

It is a good sign of they removed latest firmware… maybe they finally decided to make a serious update. For me it’s not acceptable that dlog-m and their official lut produces a cartoon movie. This should be the more accurate and without hdr or aggressive tone mapping

How much delay before the new FW and Mimo app appear in USA?

The DJI site says the latest app version is 2.2.0, but the Android link downloads 2.1.16, and the App Store link downloads 2.1.18

Neither app installs the 01.03.03 FW

They both say I have the latest.
