How Do You Look Down While Maintaining Steady Altitude and Speed?

Hello Folks,

I have hopefully a simple question.  I am a new Avata 2 user.  I would like to fly over a river at around 200 feet while looking down at about a 45 degree angle.  I would like to maintain the altitude and speed.

What happens is that when I get to the correct altitiude and speed and start looking down, the drone of course starts going down.  I try to compensate by using the joystick to go up but it is difficult.

How can I look down at the surface of the water without crashing into it while moving forward?  I am trying to do a survey to see the shallow and deep spots in the area.

I have the Avata 2 with the Motion Controller 3.

Thank you! Jimmy

Enable Head Tracking and look down by tilting your actual head down. The drone will continue traveling on its original trajectory. That’s the only way to accomplish this.

This can also be used to look sideways without having to actually use the D-pad to fly sideways, which also causes the drone to tilt sideways (roll motion). And you can also blend this, such as looking sideways and slightly down simultaneously.

The OSD will show a circle indicating the drone’s actual direction of travel as opposed to the crosshair centered on your view, and you can also reset the horizontal “axis” of your head any time so that whichever direction you’re facing at the time becomes “forward”.

One annoyance though is that when Head Tracking is enabled, the drone will also rotate (yaw) based on Motion Controller tilt even when your finger isn’t on the trigger. So the controller and your head can each influence rotation, which can make it harder to precisely maintain/adjust framing when hovering.

Thank you very much for the reply, I’m going to turn on head tracking and give it a try! Thanks! Jimmy

Hi there, thank you for bringing this to our attention. It is not advisable for you to fly your DJI Avata 2 close to the water surface because reflective surfaces such as water or snow may impair the effectiveness of the vision positioning system. Flying over water may disrupt the standard functionality of vision positioning, potentially leading to inaccuracies that may result in the drone descending into the water. Hope this is understandable. Thank you for your support!

Set max fly high (Settings, Safety) to 200 feet and press joystick max up and MC3 to 45 degree down - now you have constant high (200 feet)
