The Nimmitabel Meat Works:

The Nimmitabel Meat Works, was built in 1938 and opened its doors in 1939. Despite its promising start, the facility ceased operations in 1942.

The building itself stands about five miles from Nimmitabel, situated on the old Bombala road where the road, the railway, and the McLaughlin River converge.

Thanks Depp. Probably some architect went berserk or decided to save iron.If you go to the vimeo site I posted a bit of a scree on it.
Interesting spot so I'll go back on a slightly better day.

That must have been a sizeable investment at the time- with a railtrack passing by as well. A shame it went bust so soon after opening.

years ago I saw an article about some guy pedalling along the railway. Bit hard now as bits look to be missing.

There is an old railway line near where we used to live, that hires out machines to do just that

Interesting find of that old multi-story building and impressive footage. Over the years I've seen several two story meat processing buildings but never a 3 story. I see what looks like an older style water tower and one additional outbuilding but can't guess what it was used for . Any ideas?

Also, that would be an amazing location for some FPV flying.

Yep an old water tank and could be a stock pen for the smaller animals. You can see the outline extending beyond the structure.
Now it would have been absolutely freezing in winter and boiling's In summer.
Heck of an expense for 3-4 years it was operating.

Too much overhead and expenses probably led to its demise. Now that it is abandoned it will make for a great place to explore with an FPV drone.

Apparently the works processed cattle, sheep and pigs. So pretty much anything except chickens and rabbits

Wow, that truly was a great set-up at one time. Lots of nice lumber in that building.

Downtown: found a bit more info. The photos are from someone who used to live in the Managers Cottage and they remarked that they had no idea what the concrete structure was.

Thanks for the update. Yeah, still a bit of a mystery as to what that one building was used for but it might well be that we don't want to know what is was used for.
