Thank you for posting this comprehensive tutorial here, what a great insight. I would be interested to hear your opinions or tips regarding how best to link scenes when editing, i.e what best follows a gimbal moving down or up scene? What scene should follow a pan left or right scene? I mostly film landscapes. Thank you.

In my opinion everything should be natural and flowing smoothly, meaning you better not to overuse the same motion over and over and over and introduce different type of composition and movements every so often. However there is no so much as a "strict" rule in our genre of what to follow what. We all could learn from great piece of cinematography and apply it to our situation.
For example BBC Earth has a lot of drone shots you can see how it edits, Prometheus , Blade Runner 2049 and so on also has some. So just watch and see how real professional DoP or editors cut and "compose" motion picture. |
