I have tried every possible angle to get this to work and still nothing. Very frustrating. Also the reason I tried to go down the assistant route is because my compass keeps needing calibration, follow the app directions and horizontal works every time but vertical never works. Result is no flying.

Oh and also....Tried the Horndis workaround that the DJI person posted and although it loaded it still doesn't work

The workaround actually works - I tried again with another another cable and now everything is fine.

Mindy, that is not the problem.  the HoRNDIS installs fine, but if you then start DJI Assistant 2 THAT gives the message "Device not supported. please download the correct dji assistant...." when you connect the Mavic.  so the problem seems to be with the DJI Assistant 2...

I just downloaded the DJI Assistant 2 Mavic version, it installed without issue on my 2009 MacPro running OS Catalina (high spec machine, 64Gb RAM, dual 3.3Ghz CPU's, 8Gb Radeon RX560 GPU, 512Gb SSD). However, the Mavic Mini wont connect. Even Unplugging the device, reboot it and reconnecting within 20s. I know it is connected as the drive comes up in Finder. I have turned off, Google Sync backup, so it no longer opens when I connect a USB device. I have also renamed the Mini in Disk Manager as there was no name. Tried rebooting it all, after all these setting changes, still nothing. What else can we do to get this working, please? FYI, the drone will not turn on with the USB cabled connected..

This is what worked for me...
1) Launch DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic
2) Remove the Micro SD Card from the MINI & gimbal cover ( DOH , yeah I know I just had to put that in there )
3) Make sure your battery is at least 50% or more
4) Power on the Mini and AS SOON as you hear the start of the startup chime on the MINI plug in the MicroUSB connection and give it a few moments to hand-shake and connect..
5) if step 4 fails , power off the Mini and repeat Step 4 ( DJI says 20sec , you actually have to do it within 5 seconds ! )

Cheers and good luck

Since so may customers have the same problem with the Mac OS Catalina, I will post the workaround in public.
Please click Quit when the Mac pops up HoRNDIS is not compatible, exit the installation of the driver, then download the driver installation package below separately, and then double-click the PKG file to install it after decompression. After the installation is successful, it should be used normally.
https://github.com/jwise/HoRNDIS/files/3719733/HoRNDIS-9.2-catalina_install.pkg.zip

Also it’s important to note ..

1) Remove Micro SD card from Mavic Mini ( as sometimes the MAC OS will want to read the SD card and this interrupts the DJI Assistant from communicating to the drone.
2) Make sure your battery is at least 50% & remove gimbal cover ( yeah DOH , but its worth mentioning )
3) Launch DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic with USB cable plugged into computer
4) Power on your Mavic Mini and immediately when you hear the start up tone on the Mini plug that mircoUSB cable in.
5) Allow the DJI Assistant to handshake with the Mini ( may take a few moments , be patient )
6) if this fails , power OFF the Mavic , unplug the Micro USB from it . Try Step #4 again. You have to be quick to plug that micro USB cable into the Mini. ( Within 20seconds should be more like within 5 seconds)

Cheers and good luck

Dj Assistant 2 is easy to install to Catalina. Download the software and install it, if you get a problem installing it you go into settings on your Mac and choose security and integrity. In there you will find that the software is blocked from install, klick on allow to run the installer and your sett to go. Its a security with many programs you can bypass with this easy handle.

Is there any solution yet?

so, i did this .. istalled the HoRNDIS 9.2, restarted, then tried to re-run the dji assistant .pkg file . . and at the end it says i need to install the HoRNDIS file . . . which I had already done! So I'm not sure how to proceed. Does ANYONE have a good, CLEAR step--by-step guide to do this? I have both .pkg files -- DJI Assistant and HoRNDIS 9.2 -- sitting in my downloads folder.

Same here..:-(

Hi, I had no problems and sorry for hijacking the thread. It works but fails to upgrade the firmare which is available to install, controller done, mavic 2 pro failing at 80%, also failing to download the logs to establish why. Any hints? Thanks

I am able to connect to my controller but not the Mavic Air 2 itself. I have followed the install of the pkg from post #2 and still no connection. Tried 2 different USB-C cables and all four USB-C ports on my MBP. No dice. Very frustrating. The DJI chat session ended with the recommendation that I send the drone I unboxed three hours ago back into them to figure it out. That is ridiculous.

Hi Jeff402, we are terribly sorry for the unpleasant experience, I have posted the workaround in 2# and we will also make sure this resolution has been spreaded to our support team.
Please keep us updated if you have any other concerns.

A better solution would be to update the DJI installer so that it has the latest version of HoRNDIS.

I tried to connect my PT2-Software to my phantom 2. With Catalina the Software is not finding the Phantom 2.

"Please connect to the controller"   but the USB-Cable is connected and the phantom 2 is on...

Is your driver download also working in this case? Thanks

I have tried the latest DJI Assistant 2 (2.0.12), together with the latest Horndis (9.2), on a Macbook Pro with Catalina (10.15.6)

I was going crazy trying to get it to work - even though installs of both the dji assistant 2 and horndis claimed to have installed correctly, and I rebooted, I still could not get it communicating using my usbc-usbc cable to the dji smart controller (or any dji device)

and in the end I found I could only get it to work was using a usbc to usb a adaptor connected into the macbook pro, with an old fashioned usb a to usb c cable (and not a new usb-c to usb-c cable), and that my existing (and several) usb c to usb c cables, would not work at all.

probably its a horndis driver issue.  maybe it doesn't support usb c.

but why dji should rely on horndis is beyond me.

Im not happy , why on earth do I need to teather my phone to my Mac to install the software? I found this page-and other unhappy people, I tried the manual install of the drivers in post2 here, It crashed my mac when I turned on teathering. Even after the drivers in post 2 and reinstalling DJI assistant i still get the 2nd pop up for installing HoRNDIS - there is no application installed?
Does DJI or anyone else have a solution for getting the software working on my Imac 10.14.6 ?

There are no problem to run DJI Assistant 2 on Catalina. The problem you mostly will run into after install is that it not work. Easy to go into settings and Security and Integrity. You will find that the app is blocked and you click allow and it will run.
