Waiting for the charity swim....


A little pano whilst we waited to see the loons in fancy dress brave the boxing day waters for a fun swim.   Sadly the bright day didnt last long and turned to persistent drizzle a few hours later.

They had registered 650 people to swim by the time we gave up waiting as SWMBOd was getting cold.

Bloody freezing I would expect. .   Actually I looked it up and it was 8.5c

Yikes, that way too cold for my liking.  Water temp here yesterday was 25.8C  making it just right for a swim or a dive.  However, the water temp a bit further south in Puerto Rico, Aruba, etc was 28C.  But don't feel like you have the only cold water as it was only 12C in waters near NYC.

That's nice. Here they don't get paid much. Mostly college kids that need summer work.

I dont believe here they are paid,  I seem to recall they are all volunteers,    but they do like to be trained and have the appropriate kit.

My first Dives used to be on Saint Pattys day. That would open the season for use. It was still very cold in NY.

I bet it was.  Speaking of cold when I got up this morning and kicked on the coffee maker I noticed the temp was only 68F.  Quite cold for southern Florida.  I'm hoping the water temps haven't dropped too much as I'm going for a lake dive today.

The thermoclines were brutal in march. Sometimes the water was in the low 30s.

30s are way too cold for me and diving.  The water temp in the lake yesterday was a nice 77 degrees.  We found a sunken rental boat but it wasn't the one we were after.  We used two tanks each and still couldn't locate it.  Will be going back today with my underwater metal detector and see if that will help.  Got to go by the dive shop first and refill my tanks though.

Wow, at 35F I'm guessing the batteries don't last quite as long either and then throw in the winds for even less flying time.  Bottom line is you were able to get the flight in so that's success in my books.

It wasn't as smooth as I liked but the job is done. I always give the client the caveat about the wind butno one cares.

My son hosted the New Year's Eve party and it was hard to decline the invite.  However, getting to sleep at 3 AM is not my ideal way of getting a good night's sleep.  Oh well, had fun and enjoyed being with family members.  If I had been back on my boat no doubt I'd have been asleep by 9 PM.

Don't feel alone on that mistake.    For a while I just started to hit record at take off.  I know, waste of battery power and SD card space but back then was better than coming back off a flight and having no footage.

I do the same thing, but when I switch to catch a few photos I'll hit the switch to get back to video. I see the red circle and think it's recording and it's not. It would be great if the radio announced that it was recording. That would be helpful.

Now that would be a very helpful feature for DJI to add.  I bet a lot of other pilots would love to have that feature added.

I did a mapping mission on a construction project the other day. I have video of the takeoff and landing and a little of the construction that was happening but I forget to hit record for a 5 minute POI and all the video of the boundaries of the property because i shot some photos in between. I'm thankful they didn't notice anything missing or I would have had to re-fly it.
