I remember that too.   Could be perched in a tree branch at it's last coordinates.

Did you put your contact information on it?    FAA number?

I found a link to a very nice gent over on the Mavic Pilots forum who makes these for FREE. All you cover is the shipping charges. I just got my order today for 10 FAA I.D. stickers with my phone number on them for $4 shipped.....

And he kinda needs the drone to stick them on.

oops...did'nt realize that. But probably still cheaper to mail a letter envelope to the U.K than what you could buy them for.....

Sorry to hear your Mavic is gone.. seriously a sad event.
Still some unanswered questions though: Was the Mavic facing the low sun when it tried to make it's way home? What were the weather conditions like? Wind speed/direction (windspeed can be significantly higher @ 100m)
You state you could make Yaw inputs so RC was still a go. Did you try to switch to sports mode increasing it's agility and switching off the optical sensors?
With complex devices like the Mavic the abilities AND limitations have to be respected. For everyone different but personally I started preparing an "emergency" checklist. Systematically work it to ensure most options are covered.
When an error occurs/made, an RC heli can bury itself into the surface within a split second but these drones are likely to hover for a while or drift slowly ...there is time to keep the head clear and tick boxes. (@mods: I could not submit this post, I had to delete the word "c0ckpit". this is not a bad word since it is the operational centre on board of an aircraft.)

but choose your position of the tracker wisely, notice that even with your palm of the hand you van block satelite receiption on the back of your mavic!

Sorry Heavysledz, my reply wasn't meant to be directed towards your statement, but rather in addition to your statement. My fault for the confusion.
