If you have a mishap while using litchi you will be covered. If you have a mishap directly caused by using litchi you will not be covered.

I guess the question is then: Worth the risk? Any reports of Litchi causing an issue?

It's just as reliable as go app not heard of many crashes resulting from flying with litchi App. It's a really good app, so I would say yes is worth it.

Damage caused by reliability or compatibility issues when using unauthorized third-party parts will not be covered  by after-sales policy. Like Hallmark007 said, if you have a mishap directly caused by using litchi you will not be covered.

Thanks Mindy, but to clarify something another DJI rep posted previously:
In order for DJI to determine the fault, the craft must be recovered and provided for DJI's investigation. If the logs on the craft demonstrate that the damage was the result of a hardware fault, or a DJI GO software-initiated fault, then DJI will honour warranty. If the damage is the result of a third-party software initiated-fault, DJI will decline warranty.

The key point in the above is that the craft must be recovered and provided for investigation by DJI. Correct?

Thanks all.........back on the fence again.  So it's all up to DJI's discretion.

Just to compound to what hallmark mentioned, the repair team would still attempt to use the flight records from the aircraft itself to evaluate the unit for a warranty claim. If the flight records are inconclusive, you would end up receiving an invoice since the back up Go app flight records would not be available.

Always, but under certain circumstances responsibility would be irrefutable.

The bottom line is that if you honestly feel it wasn't user error (flying straight into a tree would be a giveaway), and the craft is still under warranty, raise a warranty claim. Just remember that if you were using a third-party app, you're likelihood of successful acceptance by DJI may be dependent on your ability to hand over the craft for investigation, whereas with DJI GO they may get enough from interogating the flight details synced to their cloud.

There have been a few cases over at Mavic when using third party apps, sudden loss of power for instance over water craft not recovered, dji went through what logs were left, and found in favour of customer with warranty replacement.
I think dji have been very fair in these instances, and although for customers some of which approach these situations thinking dji might be dishonest, the truth has been the absolute opposite and dji have not been found wanting in their fairness to there customers.
